Description
An abandoned power plant in Martinniemi, Haukipudas, Finland.

This power plant was in operation from 1927 until the 1980's. It was built in 1926-27 to be the power source for the mechanical pulp mill just across the road. The pulp mill was in operation between 1927-1964. In 1976 the pulp mill building was modified into a planing mill and this power plant continued to supply electrical power also for it as well as for the sawmill close by.

Wood debris from the sawmill was burned in three big water boiler kettles to produce steam. The steam was then led into a steam turbine which rotated the electrical generator to produce electrical power. This power plant produced around 11-14 MkWh of electrical power each year during its opeartion.

The steam turbine room. The steam turbine was manufactured in Sweden by Stal-Laval in 1927. The electrical generator was manufactured by Asea also in 1927. STAL stands for "Svenska Turbinfabriks AB Ljungström", or "The Swedish Turbine Factory Co. Ljungström".

The cover of the generator has been lifted off by copper thieves supposedly.
