I practice Kyokushin karate and love it! ^^
I don't do tournaments though
Kyokushin is a full-contact style and during tournaments they are allowed to deliver a knee to the head, which doesn't appeal to me much

I do Shotokan, and that's more of a defensive style.
But a knee to the head? That sounds interesting.. We get disqualified if we leave a small mark where contact is made, haha.
Someone punched me really hard in the face once, without pads, but no one saw, so nothing happened, haha. Hurt quite a bit though..

Shotokan also sounds good and from what I've seen looks good (nice looking forms and techniques), though I do like the fact that we can be a bit more rough
We never intentually injure anyone but we do try to make the other feel the punch/kick XD
While training we never do a knee to the head and rarely kick to the head (we do kick but mostly break it off before hitting or just ease up on it before impact). During tournaments however it IS allowed and seen as a great way to win 
Our sensei however doesn't teach the traditional Kyokushin. Well he does but emphasises on selfdefence and also blends in disciplines of other martial arts (Ashihara karate, self-defence, krav-maga and jiu jitus ect.) to make it a more complete fighting system which also allows grabs, locks and throws

Oh that's cool. :3 I know someone who does Jiu-Jitsu, but he's always complaining about getting hurt, haha.
Karate's awesome though, I entered a competition the other day and got destroyed. D:

haha yeh getting hurt is just part of martial arts, but its soooo much fun
