Description A Swan maneuvers violently as it lays down a curtain of Chaffettes to confuse any Seekers or FMP recruiters that happen to be looking skyward.

You'll note the lack of camouflage paint on the SWAN. Since they are pitted against an enemy that can see in infra-red, AMAZON has for the most part abandoned countershading.

Since FMP forces do use camouflage to beguile their normal sighted opponents, easily identifiable color schemes have become a ready means for AMAZON forces to identify friend or foe.

Ironically, despite this sight advantage, FMP Recruiters and Seekers continue to be distracted by Chaffettes. (AMAZON military planners are beginning to suspect the FMP "recruitment aids" don't share the robust programming of their robotic makers.)

These are nice ideas.

These floatation devices would probably give a downed pilot a better chance against the dread Submersible Drones.

Hmmm, I came up with the submersibles so long ago. I really should come up with an AMAZON countermeasure.

A sort of sailor suit with artificial gills that grants super-cavitation speeds underwater too? Oh and strategically placed life preserver air bladders.

As for downed pilots, perhaps on their flight suits in a couple pouches they keep a single Chaffette each, and the suit itself suppresses the life signs of a pilot, to ensure maximum evasion probability.

Thanks.

It's my own design, [link] [link] [link] which is pretty much why it makes so little sense aerodynamically.

Many, who sound like they know what they're talking about, tell me that the engine is mounted to high on the fuselage; and the vertical tails are too widely spaced--and tilted at too shallow an angle, for this thing to actually get off the ground.

Not that I question their assessment, but I suppose I'm more interested in whether or not the thing looks neat.

Interesting. Very interesting. Delightfully distracting, in fact.

If there is a pun here, I missed it. But, looking at previous encounter records, the odds of locating a pun somewhere are well over 80%.

Ahem! Well, though I love the image, the coloration really got me. blur effects are nice and all, but dozens of 'chaffettes' individually colored? Not to mention a truly gorgeous fuschia lining over a delightful inking job...

So, out of curiosity - what weapons does the SWAN have? Other than a delightfully distracting cannon of dolls, I fail to see armament.

See that big opening under where the wing meets the fusalage? That's one of two symmetrical cannon--one firing 30mm armor piercing kinetic energy rounds, the other, more a transmitter than a true gun, fires Universal linguicode bursts of hyper-concentrated logic problems and word traps that fry any computer brain it hits.

The second cannon, called a Neurosys Gun, is AMAZON's chief weapon against the 'bots.

Imagine a robot being forced to contemplate every computer killing conundrum posed by James T Kirk during the initial run of Star Trek all in the space of half a second! The robots fear this weapon even more than the kenetic energy cannon, since it causes death by insanity in most high end robots.

Occasionally, FMP tries to negotiate to get AMAZON to discontinue its use. (They never offer to surrender maids in exchange for this courtesy however.)

Smaller versions of the Neurosys gun are carried by AMAZON ground troops in the field.[link]

Ah, okay. Well, now I know. I assumed that AMAZON had -something- in the way of weaponry other than distractions. I especially love your version of electronic attacks.

I wonder how vulnerable the new, low-intelligence Seeker models are to the original logic problems that plagued Nomad? Individually, rather than shot hundreds at a time. xD

As for the other weapon, I find it quite fascinating. Ideas like this make me squeal at their cleverness.

The FMP negotiating? I understood that they were capable of Borg-like faustian bargains...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

we-r-nomad In reply to phantomdotexe [2010-05-25 00:35:17 +0000 UTC]

The Seekers are less vulnerable to Neurosys attacks (Very perceptive. That's probably why I like conversing with you. ), but that's why they can be fooled by decoys. Often to circumvent this, Seekers are given detailed instructions to capture few, and even single specific targets.

FMP is constantly trying to strike a balance between making recruitment drones smart enough to be autonomous, yet not smart enough to be vulnerable to logic attacks. It's quite a delicate process.

Of course even a perfectly adjusted Seeker is vulnerable to 100 rounds of Depleted Kryptonite Flacettes per second. (What the Kinetic Energy Weapon fires.)

Or course KEW's can't be used when a drone's carrying a prisoner.

Syssies (AMAZON'z pajorative term for FMP's self proclaimed Synthetic Sentient Beings.) are all about the Faustian deal! Fortunately, as a former maid, AMAZON's leader, Marshal Marshall Braidy knows better that to trust the oily machines.

(And you respond to my comments with witticisms like these. That's why you're so addicting xD )

So, for reference, the intelligence levels go from 'nonsentient machine' to 'amalgamating tool' (an automated program with the ability to see and interpret data, like Google Adsense) to sapience to self-awareness to the obvious choice of making the galaxy's women maids? xD

Kew kew. Good to see AMAZON getting even treatment... they need -some- punishing and high-tech equipment, or the war seems to end pretty fast. Eh heh.

'Syssies'? Really? XD Regardless, I get the feeling that each world's temporary recruits (to AMAZON, not the FMP) might have doubts about why they fight... especially when their adversaries are giving out all this free ribbon!

we-r-nomad In reply to phantomdotexe [2010-05-25 01:23:26 +0000 UTC]

Yes AMAZON could use high tech weapons, like its trademark Carrier Aircraft*. [link]

Better know as Jumpships for their ability to jump instantaneously from a fixed altitude over a planet, to the same altitude over another planet, all without ever leaving and atmosphere. (The ship pretty much generates its own Stargate.)

Carrier Aircraft are NOWHERE NEAR as big as Behemoths, the average only being 1,100 feet long displacing only 150,000 long tons when not antigravitating. However, since they agravitically float an average of 100 stories above the ground, they remain forever out of the reach of their orbital counterparts, making them the big kids in the atmospheric playground.

Festooned with missiles KEW batteries superheavy Neurosys turrets, and able to deploy squadrons of SWAN attack jets and Strike BUNI's, CA's can really spoil a perfectly good Recruitment Drive.

* Pictured is Braidy's flagship, the Alexandria. Named for the legendary warrior who cut the equally legendary Gordian Knot-- which supposedly could not he unraveled.

And not only of existing, historical craft but a large number of near-future designs as well, all very well done.
