In Greek mythology, Chronos, was the king of titans and the father of Zeus. Cronus was a harvest god and carried a sickle. The Grim Reaper and the scythe is derived from a combination of Chronos and Cronus. Which was thought to be adopted in 14th century Medieval Europe during the "Black Death", now known as Bubonic Plague.
