Robo Knux hangs from one of the walls in the deepest darkest pit of the Aquatic Mines, just waiting for some unfortunate spelunker to stumble across him. I've noticed that not that many stories have RK in them, and those that do seem to ignore his absence in all the games since Sonic R. But I wanted some way to explain his sudden reappearance in my ficverse, so I crafted a long and involved explanation, which is illustrated here.

After losing the Chaos Grand Prix, Robotnik and his three Mecha bots retreated to the safety of his secret base. But soon the Doctor noticed something disturbing: one of the newer two, dubbed Metal Knuckles, seemed to be malfunctioning. Indeed, if the Doctor didn't know any better, he might have thought that M.K. was actually uprading itself in secret. Of course, the Doctor knew those weren't opposable thumbs he was seeing on the robot's hands. And he knew that wasn't a patronizing tone the bot used with its "brother", Metal Sonic. To put it simply, the robot's behavior was creeping him out, and he was starting to suspect that some of his other creations were consorting with the rogue. So he decided to eliminate the problem by locking the source deep in the Aquatic Mines, far from anyone who might be duped into setting it free.

Of course, eventually he did manage to escape, and became an important player in my ficverse.
