As Penelope and Cerberus make their escape, the latter reveals that he would have prevented Penelope from taking a kill-shot, had she been so inclined. When Penelope questions whether the whole "spare-the-dangerous-enemy-to-humiliate-them" notion is a good idea, Cerberus points out that Bentley's just as much a threat to her master plan, if not moreso. Here, Penelope balks -- despite technically breaking up with him in Thieves in Time (to say nothing of turning heel to work for Le Paradox), she still wants to try and bring her old flame around to her way of thinking, or at least prove that adhering to Sly Cooper's moral code is a mistake. With a knowing smirk, Cerberus points out that really, he and Penelope are after the same thing, even if they have different adversaries.

As Dr. Eggman said in the IDW comics, murdering your arch-enemy is easier than you'd think...but that's not the point. It's about beating them on their terms, and proving yourself superior.

CREATOR'S NOTES:

On the one hand, the idea of Penelope turning into a bad gal would be interesting, if handled properly -- and Sanzaru didn't. That's where a fan like me steps in, to add such nuance as Penelope still having something of a conscience, and maybe having a deeper motivation for turning against the rest of the Cooper Gang.
