The weird thing about Zer0 is that no one's sure exactly what he is. "Robot" is a common theory though, along with "alien" and also "alien robot". 
The game itself teases players about this too, because Zer0's enigmatic nature is mentioned, but it's also never cleared up.
Thank you; it's good to see that people like the colours here (even though I cheated a little), considering what a risky combo it is. Red and green is easy to screw up.

i gotta say, at first i thought the colors were just complimentary and weren't supposed to actually be anything, but after looking at that screencap (daaaang is that what the game looks like? more sorcery.) i think you invoked that level pretty well, gud jorb.

Yep. People -especially those on tumblr it seems - really love Zer0. The fact that the entire level's design is made up of two main complimentary colours is one of the reasons why I like it. Red and green colour schemes are actually a bit difficult to pull off without looking Christmas-y, but the fact that the Caverns uses a dark reddish-brown and a bright acid-green really creates a lot of contrast. It's great.
I actually eyedropped (and slightly adjusted) the colours for the BG and the lighting here from a Caverns screenshot. Seems kind of like a cheat, but I already planned for the colours to look like that stage from the start, so.

is he one of those ~mysterious~ characters that people always fall for? i mean he kinda reminds me of a quarian with that body suit and helmet and stuff, and people really like Tali for p much the same reasons.

He is one of "those", yes. I think the game handles it pretty well though. At some point you can find recordings that tell the characters' backstories. In Zer0's the game's antagonist talks about how he "hates those types", or something to that effect.
Even though I've never actually played Mass Effect, I'm familiar with the aliens, and even I was reminded of the Quarians, haha.
I know, it just feels like cheating when I do it. :V
