Things were going well for Dev.

Done with raging forest fires and grave robbing, the stallion was now raging against any ballator across his path. Well, okay, any ballator that was at some form of disadvantage than him, as the concept of fair or unfair was mostly unknown to him. There was that one time where he owed a pale stranger and had promptly repaid it but only that was the tip of his knowledge regarding morality. Not out of choice but more so out of obliviousness; without any parental words to make sense of the cacophony that was life, it was the predators that taught him survival of the fittest.

And to survive in a war such as this was to pick off the weakest; The young, the foolish, the ignorant, the elderly but most importantly, the lonely.

It was this sunset that he targeted a lone desert mare drinking at a stream. He had almost missed her, her coat fading in the shadow of the hill that stood tall over both of them, only streams of light reflecting against her dull horns gave her position away.

And thus it was only enough for Dev to ambush the mare from her back, getting a mouthful of shoulder mane before evading her recoil but there was no avoiding the damage for the attack she decided to inflict on him; Sound.

A whinny thundered from the mares muzzle, it's force and shrill forced him to take a few steps back.

Although blessed with a thunderous voice, the mare on contained mortal lungs and as soon that she took a breath, he lunged at her. This time ready, the mare reared and parried the strikes that he delivered. He heard her do a deep intake of air and headbutted the mare in the throat before she could vocalize again, horns scraping and piercing whatever regions they could. A gasp forced its way out of the mare's throat but it was not from his impact.

No, it was the incoming calavary of warriors.

His head was practically jolted from the mare's throat by ,yet again a souvenir of the past, the rope that hung from his horn. The source of this force was an assortment of neon colors all accumulated in the form of a desert stallion, following his equally colorful companion's instructions. This certainly wasn't the first time some horse had the great idea of attempting to control him with these ropes but it was the first time that one had attempted to do so while leaping. With the additional surprise of the desertain mare grabbing the end of the rope that hung from his neck and pulling it in the opposite direction.

For a moment, his balance was perfectly held by these two forces and in that moment, his eye caught the pale stranger from before, her eyes filled with the same charistic terror as they had before. Difference was, this time it was not of him, but for him as the oriental mare turned way to avoid the sight of his fall once the two ropes had lost all their tension.

KERFLUMP!

The grass was unforgiving, not cushioning him from the impact of the fall , a light pain rummaging through his body causing it to shake. Rolling from his back to his stomach, the stallion's vision was disorganized and disoriented but his hearing was fine. And what he heard was laughter.

Oh Dev, Dev, Dev, don't you know this is the superhero (or I suppose supervillain) equivalent of getting your cape stuck on things *Insert here a NO CAPES emotioncon)

Maybe one day I'll will be smart and stop trying to do over complicated ideas and compositions and just settle for simple ones. Maybe. And even maybe have the courage to simply just to flat shade.
