Luthien is 8 feet tall? (if she's that big, she probably towers over Beren) I thought Galadriel was supposed to be the tallest of all elf women clocking at about 6'4", unless that statement refers to elves of the third and fourth age (except she was born during the years of the trees and is also of the Noldor, probably the tallest race in all of arda). I guess that'd make sense considering that Melian (who I don't know the height but I can assume ginormous) and Thingol/Elwe (9 feet) are both giants. What is canon anymore? Yeesh.

That's just me estimating, but yes. With the tallest elf ever as her dad and a maia as a mother, I'd imagine that she's quite tall, but also has a measure of control over her physical form since she's half maiar. (hence the hair-growing episode). This means that yes, normally she's much taller than Beren, but she can shrink to match I think he was supposed to be quite tall himself, but obviously MUCH shorter than her, haha.
Tolkien wrote that Galadriel was...
1) 6'4" (Unfinished Tales, Appendix, Numenorean Linear Measures),
2) "tall beyond the measure even of the women of the Noldor" (UT:History of Galadriel & Celeborn), and
3) (of Galadriel and Celeborn) 'Very tall they were, and the Lady no less tall than the Lord;...' (LoTR)
4) and of Elves in general, "even their women were seldom less than six feet in height" (reader's companion)
Most of these were published at different times and it's believable that he didn't remember exactly what he'd written previously (and also that he'd changed his mind). For a good discussion: www.thetolkienforum.com/index.…
Basically, it's pretty hard to believe that Galadriel and Celeborn are BOTH around 6'4", when most elven women were at LEAST 6' and Numenoreans - humans with only a tiny bit of Eldarin blood - averaged around 7'. Either G&C were SUPER short - disproved by the "tallest of all elven women" line - or they were NOT 6'4". Most likely: none of this information can be taken as absolutely accurate and thus you are free to use any of it how you want Tolkien's canon contradicts itself so much that it's fine to run with what you like!
