Too bad? Why?

This is an abandoned funicular.

It is unfortunate that it is abandoned. BTW, where is it?

Have you ever ridden one? My favorite is the Victoria Peak Tram in Hong Kong.

There was a very famous funicular railroad near where I live, which was abandoned in the 1970s, called the Mount Beacon Incline Railway . I almost rode on it once in the early 1970s, but it wasn't open when we got there, and it looked like it wasn't well maintained so I didn't go back.

This mine is taken nearby San Pellegrino Terme (Bergamo district), the village of the famous water Sanpellegrino, do you know it? This is a place totally abandoned from the 70's, but in Italy there are a lot of places left at their destiny.. It's horrible, but.. this is the truth.

People must have a lot of respect for it, for it looks to be in pretty good shape.

I am not familiar with the area. I've been in Italy twice (1966 and 1983) - mostly big cities, though my father drove us from Austria all the way to Rome and Naples in 1966.

Yes, it's right.. more respect for everything. Italian people are not usual to the respect.. is terrible. (Bergamo is 40 km far from Milan)
