a separate layer, yes =]

I usually use the texture layer in Overlay blending mode, or multiply blending mode if Overlay doesn't show up enough.

Thanks a lot mate! I have been following your work for a good ten years now, and I really dig the way you developed this method that seems to be really fast to execute, but yields a very good detailed looking final product.
Do you usually spend a lot of time creating your designs (I mean all the armour, weapons, items and other small bits) or it just comes to you easily and you always go with your instincts?

oh, designing is a huge part of it, and I could spend hours on it before the final piece begins. the designing phase is only shortened if there is a short deadline. XD

I justa asked because the design phase is the most time consuming to me. I am impressed with how much you actually draw.

yeah, the design phase definitely takes a lot of time, even after doing this for over 13 years, I always breath a relieve when the design phase is done and I'm happy with it. the part afterward is more mindless in comparison.

Well, I suppose it is like that to most of us. But your designs are awesome dude, so it definitely worth the time you put on them.
I am also curious, do you usually start your designs on paper or straight digital?

I love taking a gel pen and just doodle on paper, a lot of times even when I have no idea at the start, after messing around an idea will reveal itself, its freaking magical LOL

(IF I'm right it is possible to find how old are your Anima drawing considering your lines. The oldest have a dark/black line while the newest seem to be more colored and thin. Well ok, i'm always focusing on tiny details )
