the problem with female characters wearing practical armor, is that it is harder to tell you are looking at a female. I think you pulled it off pretty good, and bucked the standards for female fantasy armor in the process. Good job!

I think the best part about this pic is that you drew her in practical armour! The piece is well coloured too.

I think it is beautiful and I don't know what your friend was talking about. BTW was her crest based of the maeda family crest?

Fantastic. I absolutely love the use of reds and blacks in the armor and that touch of purple on the belt.

Unless it's ceremonial, armor isn't supposed to be pretty...it's for use in a very nasty situation, and as such doesn't really need embellishment.
Having said that, this piece is terrific!

It is really amazing!

Not pretty enough?
Just look at that face!
Now the sword is very plane for you.
She is a Naseki maid, Wright?-(swords women)
Wasn't left hand fencing part of training for one clan daring the EDO period?

very nice, very distinctive female samurai compared to most works around.
the breastplate looks like european, but that's good.

What amazes me is that people are not thinking this is NOT ornate ...granteed its not fantasy armor but it is extremly beautiful and if anyone would to make this armor in the real world it would outshine any atempt to create any fanasy armor....IMHO

Not that we don't all love your gorgeous women, but it's very refreshing to see something a bit more practical in ANYONE'S fantasy depiction of a female samurai. As pretty as the Japanese equivalence of a chain-mail bikini is, sometimes you need a girl who can rock the sensibility scales.

interesting, and amazing. although many female samurai were horse archers, a few were foot soldiers. although, I think ive seen a suit like this before, in a museum, great work.

I think it's very good, the thing about samurai armor is, that it must be practical in the first place. If a samurai would place decoration of his weapon/ armor above use, he would be looked down on, no surprise. Only warchiefs and generals had decorations to scare the enemy. Sorry for this small thing, it's just what I noticed.
The decorations that you did add fit perfectly in an historical correct armor piece =3

I rather like that the armor looks more "function over form." One of the principles of war is deception, right? With her mask on, likely nobody would even suspect they were facing a woman. I like that idea. **Grin**
