Description Another installment in my series on mythological creatures!

Jackalopes originate from North American Folklore, with their supposed origin point being Wyoming. Taxidermists are to thank for this one and the concept quickly took off after its introduction sometime in the 1930's.

Their real life existence is widely debated by their enthusiasts and researchers believe that rabbits infected with Shope Papilloma Virus may have inspired the original idea and be the actual case of some "sightings." The virus causes hard, horn-like tumors to grow from the rabbit in various places, the head among them.

According to legend they can mimick human voices and enjoy singing along to campfire songs from the shadows of the thicket. They are also immensely fond of whiskey, some tales saying that the alcohol can be used to catch them and others saying that an offering of the drink is the only way to calm them.

Either way, they are a cryptid fit for the rough and tumble of the Wild West.

Bonus information:

While Jackalopes appeared in the early 1900's, horned rabbits in general date back far further: All the way to the mythology of the Huichol, who are an indigenous people of Mexico and the Southern United States.
