Description Another piece of concept art for my world- this time Empress Tarasla, or "The Conquerer Queen". Great leader, not that great of a mother and awful politician, who has spent more than half of her life on the battlefield, trying to reunite a fragmented empire after her weak-willed mother's rule.
I may love plate armor with passion, but I must say, drawing light armor is much more fun. .w.

About this kind of armor:
Forest elves are fast and agile- their light armor reflects that. The hardened leather offers basically the same protection than the desert elves' plate armor, without the disadvantages of weight.
Even though she's the empress, she doesn't stand out with her attire in battle, and wears the same armor everyone else does. The only sign of her being royalty is the golden embroidery on her tunic. (I figure it could be because then people wouldn't be able to tell if the leader has fallen and they won't break their wave... but I'm not sure yet.)

Tarasla and this currently unnamed world belongs to me, *Weresquirrel94
More things from this universe can be found on my tumblr , or in the sketchdump I'm going to be posting pretty soon, I hope.

THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I am very excited to see the desert elves armor.
My mum saw this over my shoulder and she immediately thought it was some Elf Quest art. I thought that was quite the compliment because Wendy Pini (the artist of Elf Quest) is INCREDIBLE! You have some excellent design skills. I am in love with those boots. They look so comfortable.
I am incredibly intrigued by this world, I am already planing a fan OC, which is totally weird, but I hope it is mildly alright. Elves are cool!

How does a corset provide the same amount of protection than plate armor?

Multiple layers of specially treated, thick leather with chainmail underneath. It doesn't necessarily stop attacks, it redirects them. As long as they don't get a huge battleaxe to the head, it's basically the same amount of protection for the vital organs without putting unnecessary weight on her.

If it's a slash, I will accept that.

However, a spear or thrusting attack of any kind would probably still go through that quite easily, considering both kinds of armor are not ideal to protect against that type of attack.

Yes, I'm aware of that, even though thrusting weapons don't appear much in this universe. So it comes down to distance, IMO.
I tried to make every species weaker against some other one to avoid one becoming overpowered. For example, frost elves live in an area that's easy to protect and have magical abilities because of the lack of crossbreeding, so their armor has to be weak. Forest elves are quick and agile archers, so light armor makes sense and like this, they're weaker against melee attacks. Desert elves are tough and sturdy, can carry the weight of plate armor, but they're weak against blunt trauma, which is provided by the cave elves' large and heavy warhammers. The circle closes in.

Just as a warning, I don't do this out of malice. I am only questioning because I feel these are plot holes that might need to be addressed. Kagome has ripped me apart sometimes when I do this.

The Desert Elves can't outfit EVERYONE with plate-armor. That would just be incredibly inefficient and require a huge mining network with a labor force that would pretty much have to be slaves right off the bat.

Plus, plate armor in the desert is almost always a poor choice. They would need a good reason for why their armies aren't dead from heat-stroke. (Though I am sure you thought of this already. Just saying.)

Plus, Warhammers are good against plate armor, that much is true. But taking a warhammer to a knight doesn't automatically guarantee you victory. If the Knight if still better armed than you, and more skilled, he'll still probably kill you quite handily.

Hunny, I wasn't getting defensive at all. XD Trust me, I value your insight, and I was just about to ask you if it was possible to hop over to facebook or something to go more into the depths of this.

I never mentioned anything about arming every single run-of-the-mill soldier with full armor, and of course it can't be broken down into a game of rock-paper-scissors. There are loads of factors involved in wars, I just want each species to have a certain advantage over another to make pacts and plot twists more interesting.
(Btw, desert doesn't automatically equal tropical desert. There are plenty of dry and cold areas, y'knows.)
