I just finished watching 'Man of Steel' for a second time, and I have to say that it's one of my favourite movies now. Russell Crowe's portrayal of Jor El was fantastic, and as one of my favourite actors, he quickly established the character and made Jor El loveable and relatable.
That aside, I found your picture to be interesting and pretty unique. The darkness of it, all of it, captures the soul of the film and the character. 'Man of Steel' is a dark movie, and the shadows in your painting shows this. The subtle glimmers of light on his hair and face are almost traces of hope, hope that has been coated in darkness. I like the messy painting style; it's not clean nor is it hugely detailed, leaving space for imagination, and continuing to reveal that eerie darkness and realness of the character and the movie. The faded background brings Jor El into focus, but still has your eye wander to the left.
I personally like your picture, although I do feel a few things could have been improved. The shading and lighting are excellent, speaking great volumes without being too loud. I feel that the background might be just a touch too out of focus, and it would not have hurt for it to be a little more in focus. From a distance, Crowe's Jor El is a good profile, but the closer it is, the easier it is to see faint mistakes.
These mistakes do not take away from the picture as a whole, however, and I must end this critique with a congratulations on a superb piece!
