Description This was a fun experiment I did for portrait drawing class. I printed out the rough lines and flats on arches cold press watercolor paper and then did all the rendering on top with colored pencil. Pretty happy with the results.

It's not a technique I've heard of before, but your experiment certainly paid off! It's a very striking image, great job

A stunning success. The light color of the lines in some places if what really makes it for me; it gives the illusion of papercraft.

This is a beautiful piece, Wes, and the technique is very interesting! I'd love to give it a try sometime.

Would you mind telling me the make/model of your printer? I work in a small copier/print shop and we have several nicer printers, I'm wondering if any of them would be better than the others for this task.

Love the effect, this technique worked really well! In the past I have coaxed my own printer to print out linework ready for watercolouring, but I'd never thought of printing out flats and using coloured pencils before.
I love the graphic quality this has, too, it's gorgeous!

Beautiful choice of colours, love the classic style she's done in. Very much like a classic fairytale instead of disney.

Thanks! I have a super nice A3 printer. Pretty much any larger expensive printer can print on multiple surfaces.

I used various prisma colors from my rather large collection.

The subject is perfect for the stylized look. There is a stained glass window look over it. The stylized flatness of the dress and flowers clashes with the more naturalistic drawn face and hands in a very interesting way.
