Description

You’ve been traveling for what feels like forever. You stop to rest but are rudely awaken by the sound of wild dogs, they sound pretty vicious and large in number. What do you do?

A] Run, Flee
B] Hide, head for the bushes, then search for shelter.
C] Follow the noise and attack

Finn had been galloping around the desert for days. He had just been chased by another stallion from territory he thought had been open for the taking. Barely missing teeth marks and a kick to head the young stallion was done for a while. He finally spotted a small oasis in the distance and spent half the day trying to get to it.

Sweating profusely, breathing heavily, the stallion collapsed next to a small pond with ample shade. He drank heavily and let a cool breeze dry him off. He couldn't be any more content to sit here. The sand was cool beneath the shade and warm when you buried your hooves under it. There wasn't much of grass to munch on so Finn decided to only stay for the night. He hoped to head into the valleys around the mountains. Much better chance of finding mares and territory with space to run, grow and rest.

His head began to nod in the heat of the sun, refreshed and watered he drifted off. His dreams were filled with mares and him sprinting across his own territory, fighting off any unruly stallions. He smiled in his sleep, legs twitching with each kick he delivered. He was a king! But his dreams soon turned to nightmares. A dark wind pulled up and a deep growling sound wrestled itself from the depths of the earth. He startled awake just a dark creature jumped him in his dream.

His head shot up and his ears twisted forward. What? Is that a pack of dogs? He thought, perplexed. A gust of wind buffeted his face and brought the rotting scent of meat and wet fur. Yep, dogs. Finnian rolled his eyes, exasperated his nap couldn't have lasted longer. He preferred to move during the night in the desert, it would be chilly but a lot less draining. The pack was moving fast though, he didn't have time to be annoyed.

Quickly the stallion jumped to his feet, took a gulp of water and dipped his mane and head in the pool and made a quick decision. He had planned on heading towards the mountain valleys, better late than never ya? The dogs were now in sight. They were pretty big for a lone pack in the middle of the desert, maybe they had come from the mountains desperate for a meal. Crap, he was a meal.

Soon the oasis was fading into the background. Sand flew up behind him as he made his escape. He threw a quick look over his shoulder and saw they had already arrived at his rest stop. A few were sniffing around and then suddenly the pack was back on the hunt, him being the reward. Finnian was a small stallion, thin, he wasn't meant to fight off a bunch of dogs. But he hoped his speed would win him points. He was kicking himself now for not having a few friends to run with.

But he was confident. They weren't anywhere near him and he was making great strides. At least he thought so. Another quick glance behind him and fear went through him. A particularly large, thin dog was making even better strides. It was sleek, built like Finn made to run long distances across the desert. Finn bent his head further and picked up more speed. But the other dog still ran faster. Suddenly it was next to him, snapping with long yellowed teeth. Finn instinctively kicked out, breaking his stride. His hoof found purchase and nicked the dog in the ribs. He heard a fierce snap as bone gave way below his solid hoof.

Finn smirked as the dog fell howling behind him. Soon the desert turned to stone as it reached the outlying mountains. Pieces of rock flung themselves around his feet, nicking Finn around the ankles. But his adrenaline was running too high for him to notice such a minute pain. He was on the home stretch. But unfortunately still not out of danger. Another dog built for speed had overcome the other pack members and was hard on Finn's heals.

Come on you ugly mutt, come at me. I'd love to give you another scar or two. Finn was taking this pursuit like a game. It was becoming trivial and honestly he wasn't concerned about being brought down. He wasn't even breaking a sweat. The scared up dog gave a leap to try and mount Finn, teeth bared and claws sharpened for his flesh. But Finn guessed this and took a sharp turn letting the dog leap into a rock instead. A sharp yelp issued from its broken jaws.

Finn gave a laugh and chose a rocky path to pursue. The other dogs behind him were still as loud, their sounds bouncing off the canyon walls, but he felt confident they wouldn't be able to catch up to him as he maneuvered the rocky landscape. Soon he'd be on the other side, leaving the desert behind him. A close call for a stallion so young, maybe it was about time he'd find some companions to help him in this life.

I am only slightly satisfied with this. lol Not too happy that I have to write 800 words though minimum. But eh. Good practice on my end. I just end up rambling as a writer, especially when I don't have the muse. :/ But whatever! Haha! Ignore the blurry bits on the sides. My scanner is a piece of crap. And that dust cloud in the corner! X'D Ohmg I need help. But I lost my muse for this. :/ ARG. I want a better digital drawing device so bad. I don't mind watercoloring, but I'd like to put more effort in my watercolor pieces. :/
