Description WARNING: A lot of info below, but it's all VERRY important to stable development that is coming soon, and this will be the last time I summarize it as I know it is a lot of confusing stuffs. So if you're someone who likes following stable stories, PLEASE READ. Otherwise I can absolutely guarantee you will be lost in the next few months.

Will the Wolf Survive  - Los Lobos chicano rock bby, SPEAKS TO THE SOUL

Through the chill of winter
Running across the frozen lake
Hunters are out on his trail
All odds are against him
With a family to provide for
The one thing he must keep alive

Will the wolf survive

Standing in the pouring rain
All alone in a world that's changed
Running scared, now forced to hide
In a land where he once stood with pride
But he'll find his way by the morning light

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My dad popped this cd in the car one day and this song just clicked. This is Ryan, AVRRA's scarred and strained owner. This man... as I've been developing him, he just tugs at my heartstrings. He's been through so much in such a short span of time, and all too soon. I've been meaning to do a pic like this for quite some time, just to sum up AVRRA's move to California. So, a little bit of a description is necessary. I think I made him look a little too young for 34, but wateverrrrs...

- So, first, a little bit about this mysterious Ryan, who hasn't been actually introduced face on until now. He's kind of always been this mysterious but necessary figure in all of my stories, and now he kind of has an image. If you can't tell by my crappy drawing, he's an amputee: both his lower right arm and leg are prosthetic. Most of his life, he had been training to be a competitive sailboat racer (augh I really need to do my research on that, but it had to be after I've been playing so much Assassin's Creed 4...) until a pretty nasty car accident a few years ago, which as you can tell, crippled him from the professional circuit on the brink of success at the age of 29. With no where else to go, he returned to his Grandparents' ranch in Utah full of subdued angst and depression. He spent his childhood with his Grandparents after his father left before he was born and his mother was taken into rehab for drug abuse. By the time he was forced to 'retire' to the ranch, only his grandmother was alive, barely managing to keep up with the mounting bills and decaying property. Finding no other way to vent his frustration, he silently went to work fixing up the place - not because he wanted to see the stables nicer - heck, he could care less about the horses - but because he needed to be doing something, and being a college dropout he couldn't quite find work he felt was up to his standards. Then one day, his Grandmother died and he was surprised to see that she had left Autumn Vale Ranch to him in her will. He didn't know the first thing about taking care of a stable full of horses. Debt collectors and the IRS started closing in like sharks, and somehow he mustered the strength through his self-pity to use the remainder of his savings to fend them off. With an emotionless front, he has managed to build up Autumn Vale Ranch into the Academy it now is - only because he feels it is his duty to the memory of his grandmother. He doesn't ride often and is rarely seen outside of his study.

By the age of 34, he has been given more responsibility than he knows what to do with since the arrival of a nameless black government van. He has had his hands full with the stables as it is, but suddenly these strange people are arriving on his back doorstep, claiming to be from the past, and not knowing where they are. A secretive branch of the US Airforce, the MDTA, knocked on his front door one morning and told him he had to pack up his horses and leave, the government invoked the right of Eminent Domain and claimed the property. With no small amount of pressure and sleuthing, Ryan single-handedly managed to figure out what was going on: there was a time portal on his property dumping out people from the past, and the MDTA had managed to shut the media up overnight and moved in. But Ryan wasn't giving up without a fight; he might have had to give up his whole future to some drunk in a car in one day, but he wasn't about to give up the only thing he had left to cling to to these goons.

Finding it easier to work with him than against him, the MDTA struck a deal. Ryan and his horses stayed on the property, but he was saddled with the responsibility of playing babysitter for these time-traveling refugees. At first, he made it clear that this deal was made purely out self preservation, but once he saw how the MDTA treated these victims, he slowly developed a soft side that argued (to himself) that he was the only thing standing between the vicious government agency and their 'temporal subjects.' These people where humans too, not just something to be studied under a microscope. The refugees slowly developed a life at the stables as they waited anxiously for the MDTA researchers to find a way to send them home.

Now their portal has seemingly gone dormant, and the MDTA has revealed that there are more portals in the world besides theirs, most dormant. But a relatively large one has started acting up in California, and since the MDTA knows a good system when they see it, they have requested AVRRA and its horses move to the new site to continue research on the refugees without interruption. Well, not really requested. More like ordered. Knowing that the horses were the only stable thing in the refugees lives at the moment, he knew he had no choice but to  go along with it - even if that meant he had to leave his grandmother's beloved ranch. But he knew the old woman would have commended him for his moral conscience, and would have just been happy that he was finally taking an interest in life again.

---------------------------------------
And so here we are in the present, Ryan and his troop on their way to sunny Southern California. Clockwise starting with the plane are only a few of the many pressing things on his mind:

The plane represents a lot of stuff for him; A big metal machine flying all of his worldly possessions halfway across the country. He's spent a good portion of his career in California - you know, good sailing conditions and whatnot - but it's still hard moving away from 'home'.

Loading up the horses was tough. Major Reid - the MDTA officer assigned to supervise the move - was less than forgiving when on a schedule, and things ended up being kind of rushed. Quite a few of the horses had a hard time loading up.

Moving boxes... seems like that's all he's been looking at for the past month or so. He doesn't have much, but he knows he has more than what the temporal refugees have packed... which is pretty much the clothes on their backs.

The biggest and most imminent concern for him right now is Naira . She's pretty close to foaling and the vet gave him very disturbing news about her that has him on edge (will do a story on that soon). Bottom line, he can't sell her or leave her behind, and has no choice but to load up the mare onto the plane and cross his fingers that her easy-going personality will keep her and her baby(s) safe.

Always in the back of his mind, whenever he has to drive or be in a car, is that dreadful accident that took his arm and leg. It's just that memory that never goes away.

(By this point I was losing steam lol) Just a little reminder that Taylor , his most faithful stable hand, had to stay behind in Utah. He's pretty worried as to what he's going to do without her now... but luckily he has Aimee who applied to the LA film school and so is moving with them.

And lastly, the ever-looming MDTA, that mysterious branch of the US Airforce. Major Reid is a serious thorn in his side, and only proves how cold and unsympathetic the MDTA is regarding their human refugees. Ryan has gotten word that there are already a couple of new temporal refugees waiting for them at the new California site, and he knows they won't be the last.

-----------------------------------------

So in short? AVRRA is finally, officially, TOTALLY out of Utah. We are no longer in Utah. We're gone. Done. Finished. CALIFORNIA HERE WE COME. Read everything? Good, now go take a look at those song lyrics again. Have a cookie.

Also, Ryan is the totally awesome bad-arse who takes secretive government agencies with only two limbs.

Wat am I doing with my life.
