Do you know, that they speak very hard in there? Like, it's called "Piešťany" (pyeeshtjany), but they call it "Píštany" (peeshtany)

Lol I've heard that czech is much rougher than slovak is it similar to czech in that region. Or are they rougher in that region for no reason haha?

Is is The western you go, it sounds more like czech But czech dialects in Moravia sound way more slovak, than slovak dialects in Záhorie .

I live in north-eastern Slovakia, so we have Gorals here, and they speak in their dialect, that is reslly simmmilar to polish Then we also have Ruthenians here - my dad is a Ruthenian, so I'm half Ruthenian (he's from far more eastern Slovakia than we live now, though...his homevillage is only 1,5km far from Ukrainian borders by bee-line ) and that sounds like mixed Ukrainian It's really lovely dialect. I adore, when he is talking with someone on his phone, he's using ruthenian and I just listen to what he is talking about Same goes with russian and ukrainian - everyone is wondering, what is he talking about and I know it Btw, did you know, that Andy Warhol was a Ruthenian too?

But back to the dialects. I think, that here - on east  we have most dialects and they are very various. If you'd go somewhere else, for example to central or western Slovakia, people wouldn't understand you But if someone from western or central Slovakia would've gone to east, we wouldn't have problem with understanding them I don't know why is it...maybe because western dialect is just rough, but they have some simmilarities with us, for example, they often use "dz" instead of "d"....or "c" instead of "t" For example "dzeci"(dzetzi), instead of "deti" (dyethee) And central Slovak dialects are easy to understand, because official Slovak was made of central Slovak dialects

Leaving dialectal words behind, it's mostly because you guys speak too fast! It's difficult to understand fast speech, especially when accented. Dialect from Detva and dialect from Zuberec are also pretty different from each other but you don't see people not understanding. Because unlike you vychodňare, their tempo is NORMAL QAQ
(Lol no jk I luv u guys)

blcha128 In reply to DokuDoki [2015-02-09 18:43:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's right But still, even when we don't speak fast, westerners and you, guys, usually have problems with understanding us, because we use lots of dialect words even in normal speech
But your dialects are still pretty easy....and sooooooo lovely for listening Ľaľa, aľe

blcha128 In reply to Westlywheatly [2015-01-22 23:24:28 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha Why U so amazed by underskirts? First is called "cudnica"...it's still, so when you turn around, this is the only skirt, that isn't wavy, so you can turn as much as you want Then there's "spodnica"...it's normal skirt...above that, there's the classic skirt of one color and then usually about two aprons Oh, I almost forgot about that thick ribbon

Westlywheatly In reply to blcha128 [2015-01-23 06:43:03 +0000 UTC]

I come from a place where there is little to no culture, just I phones and dumb white girls. I find that completely amazing!! The thick ribbon is amazing! Seriously I want one! This is my favorite region for kroj, thank you for explaining! Doesn't it get uncomfortable though?

blcha128 In reply to Westlywheatly [2015-01-23 12:48:14 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha make sure, that if you'll visit Slovakia once, you'll go to my place and I'll dress you into a kroj
Sometimes it is really uncomfortable You can't breathe in that properly, because you have to tie it all really tight...

DokuDoki In reply to Westlywheatly [2015-04-16 09:03:34 +0000 UTC]

Lies and slander >A< While simple kroje may cost only around 80 euros (depends on where you're buying it), if you want something more rich like full kroj from Piešťany you better prepare at least 500-800 euros. But if you're okay with kroje that aren't authentic or historical, you may get one for only around 150 euros! Those wide ribbons can be bought in any textil shop, they're pretty easy to find.

Also number of underskirts is usually smaller than what Blcha mentioned, it really depends on the area. It's true that there's cudnica (the underskirt that doesn't lift when you turn so your booty ain't visible), but that's only worn with kroje that don't have have underdress or long enough shirt! Then some areas don't use spodnica (normal underskirt) at all. And there are also areas that use multiple underskirts. As for kroj from Piešťany, there's no cudnica and while underskirt isn't required, I recommend to use it otherwise aprons will be itchy!

P.S. I don't think this was mentioned before, but actually the ribbon you tie around your waist for Pieštany kroj should have bow in back, not in front. But only small amount of people know this, so if you use it that way you'll be special and educated ˇwˇ
