Description
Yoshi kissed Makani on the cheek and bade his wife a good night. Then he turned to Kisho. Kisho bowed to Makani, and the woman smiled.
"Have a nice night. And try to get some sleep, will you? Both", she told her husband and his young lover. Kisho still wondered how she could take his intrusion upon her marriage this calmly, but both Makani and Yoshi were special people. When she was gone, he gathered his courage and asked Yoshi while he massaged the older man's shoulders and neck.Β His lover laughed.
"Makani and I are married a good while, almost eighty years now. When you are young, Kisho, love is a burning fire, a misstress driving your whole life, and closely intermingled with sex. This diminishes with time, leaving a smoldering hearth in mid-age and a glowing light from within in your old days. Makani and I have reached this stage long ago. We are friends, comrades and allies in the first place, and lovers only after that. But this love is unwavering and secure, because we went through a whole life together. She knows she's mine and I'm hers forever. When you can live for hundreds of years, you either have many relationships that are intense but don't last long, or you find your soulmate and can live with him or her for the rest of eternity. Makani and I will do that - until death doeth part us. And I can guarantee neither of us will live much longer than the other."
Kisho shed a lonely tear behind Yoshi's back. He knew he was in love with Yoshi, but in eight days, his contract would end, and his heart would break. And Yoshi would still have his Makani. The sting of jealousy was bitter. Kisho blocked it out. No point in sadness in advance. Live the present. And in present, he was here with the man he loved, and would get to make love to him. He began to gently brush Yoshi's back. The older man sighed and let himself fall into Kisho's arms.
They exchanged caresses for quite a while. When they finally came to the point of making love, Yoshi turned to Kisho.
"I want to see you", he muttered and placed himself against the headboard. Kisho sat on his lap, kissing his lover's forehead. A while, only the sounds of their love were to be heard. Yoshi was a gentle man, and his lovemaking was gentle, too. Kisho caressed his hair, and Yoshi leaned his forehead onto Kisho's nose. They closed their eyes, cherishing the moment. Neither of them saw the tiny spark that grew into a small light in an instant, only to wash over them with blazing flames. They only felt the warmth of their love.

Kisho (on the right) is a character from my novel www.amazon.de/Ancestors-Teil-I⦠I wrote with Leabasan . Up to now, it's only available in German, but he is translating it.

Heya, I'm Tabs~ I found you from ProjectComment 'sΒ Weekly Commenting Project ~!
The pose is a very close shot, giving a very warm intimate but pure loving feel to it. The yellow in the background seems to be warm, but not as warm in comparison to their skin as they hold each other, which is just so poetic <3 The way they clasp each other and form a gentle heart-like shape for the picture is just <3 <3 <3 The height difference is also a nice touch to show how different these two could be. One seems younger as well, perhaps from the wrinkles on the one on the right. The way you reference a glowing light in your description's anecdote helps it tie together too ^^
The arms and hands could potentially use more blending on the lighting (however one does that with renders), or perhaps some other technique like added texture in order to take away some of the sharpness to the lighting there, just to go along with the rest of the shading around the faces and arms. I also think the ears look lovely, but the left's ear could use a little reflected light off the folds of the ear if that makes sense. It looks a little flat, that's the word! but still I see the shapes are cut kinda hard with the contrast of the background and foreground (yellow/black) so the shading helps it from seeming like it's too flat.
Β
I appreciate the work you've put into this!! Thanks for your time ^^ If you have any questions about my comment please let me know~ otherwise, hope you have a great rest of your day c:

Hi Tabs,
Thank you very much for your detailed comment! Yes, Kisho (on the right) is much younger than Yoshi; Yoshi is about 110 years old and Kisho is about 25 at that point. Yoshi looks about 60, because they have de-aging systems in that universe. And yes, Kisho is tall for a Nihonjin, being 1,80m (6ft), plus he's sitting on Yoshi's lap.
I see your point with the shading on the arms and ears. I used a point light (light source being one point in space) between them. Since it's a photorealistic rendering engine, the lighting would be correct this way, but I could move it a bit to the front to light arms and ears more. I have to try it; I'm a little afraid it will overlight the faces then.

I would say you should leave it how it is! I forgot to say: Iβm sue this is the realistic lighting especially from your point lighting, but it just came off as a starker contrast on the left of the picture with the arm and ear areas, but otherwise a beautiful piece nonetheless!! No need to alter it, I love it! Thank you for telling me about the characters too ^^

Well, I render for about 10 years now. I do not paint that good! It's a 3D render, which is more like virtual photography. You put virtual figures into a virtual environment, pose them, light the scene and the software computes the image. (Okay, there's more to it than just bending some joints; you can change about everything if you know how, but for the beginners, there is a pre-set for about everything. So if the artist is willing to spend money for laziness, he can reach a stunning image within a few clicks. It can become a very expensive hobby.)

Oh, I didn't even notice!
Even if it's not a painting, it's still beautiful...
But I may have to put it in a different favorites folder.

Thank you very much! I had hoped it would be visible; when I work (too) much on an image, I tend to lose the viewer's eye ^^
