Personality, Biography, and History
- Personality
Timid-she is cautious around strange cats, prefering to linger on the edge of the group than to be in the center.
Stand-Offish-although she still prefers not to be the center of attention and remains cautious of strangers, she has outgrown her timidness since she joined Lightning Empire, replacing it with a tendency towards being aloof.
Sharp-she can be quite witty, almost to the point of acidity. She has many ideas, but may be nervous about sharing them.
Sturdy(Stubborn)-she hates tears and overly-expressive displays of emotion, prefering to bottle them up. She will remain steadfast to a decision until it has reached an end, even if she starts to doubt it later. Similarly, once she considers someone her friend or leader she will remain loyal to them until death unless they betray her.
Cold-she doesn't handle strong emotion very well. Her tendency to bottle up her feelings means that she rarely shows when she feels sad or excited, but also makes it hard for her to understand when other cats don't do the same. As a result she may try to be sympathetic or comforting to a cat in distress, but will most likely be relatively unsuccessful. Her lack of value in strong emotions makes it difficult for her to understand relationships not based in keeping each-other alive.
Lonely-growing up with her mother, Eumenide was used to a life of almost constant training and relatively constant companionship. Once she reached Lightning however, she was suddenly left on her own a lot and was forced to train by herself if at all most of the time. As a result, she jumps at the chance to train or interact with other cats, but her shyness prevents her from actively seeking companionship out. This inability to acquire companionship has left her feeling bitter much of the time and though she doesn't mind being on her own she carries a secret feeling of abandonment.
Supportive-she might not be the best at expressing it, but she is willing to back up any worthwhile cause. She dislikes seeing others being weak and will more often than not look for some way to help them get stronger. Although she sees more worth in strong fighters that doesn't mean she doesn't see the potential for strength in weaker cats. Similarly, she keeps most of her judgments to herself and is willing to give anyone a chance to prove themselves regardless of background or size.
Fiery-Eumenide is a warrior by blood, mind and heart and as such she doesn't like letting others dominate her. She is obedient to her leaders because she feels they have earned it, but if anyone else tries to challenge her she won't hesitate to fight back. If it is an Empire-mate she won't draw claws until they do, but she isn't afraid of scuffles if she thinks they're asking for it. Whether it is a word, a look, or a touch, this tigress isn't likely to turn down what she percieves as a challenge.
Blunt-Not one to waste breath she generally says exactly what she feels...if she thinks it's appropriate... Usually... Tempestas has his work cut out for him.
Eumenide has a mild fear of enclosed spaces, prefering to be able to see the big white moon or leaves over her head to a roof but is also wary of wide open spaces. She has a tendency to sleep outside even on cold days and nights, prefering the open air or her back against the outside wall of the blacksmiths' cave to the enclosed space of a den. She is skittish about being around in daylight. Because neither she nor her mother expected any sort of life for her except fighting in the pits, she has a great deal of knowledge about fighting but had almost none about the outside world. This applies to her sociability as well: she grew up isolated with her mother. She learned to be very tolerant of others from her, but had absolutely no prior experience to interacting with other cats outside from her and so can still be rather clumsy socially. Being prepared for a life of fighting, she has no ill-will against the pits. They were a way of life, and death was an inevitable part of that. However, she is disgusted by the Bounty Hunters. Not because they bring cats to the pits, but because they hunt other cats as a way of life.
She wishes to have cubs one day (she was raised to believe it is an important part of being a strong warrior), but her difficulties with emotions makes her prospects low.
Orientation Straight Demi-romantic

- Biography
Eumenide was born in the pits beneath the humans' coliseum to a stripeless tigress. Her mother somehow managed to keep her from coming to the humans attention and so she grew up in the isolation of her mother's cell. Selene fought in the pits with the determination to win of a mother protecting her cub, believing that as long as she kept winning her only cub would be safe. She taught Meni some of the basics of fighting in preparation of what she viewed as an inevitable future in the pits as well as how to hunt the rats that scurried through the underground cells. Meni was protected from having to fight or interact with the other fighting cats, although she still heard the rumors that circulated in the dark chambers of the Bounty Hunters and the legend of the Empire Cats. When she was about 4 months old, her mother was forced to battle to the death against a cheetah named Aeros who happened to have been her best friend as a cub. When she defeated him, he gave her his battle-tested scarf before he died as a gift for her daughter along with the message that true friends will never forget you. About a month later, Selene came back from a fight with a serious injury and they both acknowledged that she would most likely not survive her next fight. After saying a final farewell, Selene left to the fighting pit and never returned. Her owner discovered the cub and bribed to get her into what he hoped would be a place as a Bounty Hunter. The night before her training was to begin however, she left the city carrying a lion's helm and a tiger's shoulder guard with the intentions of joining the legendary empire cats. She followed the snow-cloaked river out of the city and to the Old Oak at the border between Shadow and Lightning Empire where she waited for a passing patrol rather than intrude on the wild cats' territory.
. In her first year with the wild cats Eumenide flourished in terms of her training and growth but struggled to understand her knew life. Gradually, she learned how to interact with the group of strangers that was her new family and even managed to make a few friends in the process. However, a side-effect of empire-life was that her mentor, who also had a cub of her own to teach, was often busy with her duties and the tigress found herself left to practice moves that her mother had taught her or observe the others if she wanted to train. Her fears of appearing weak prevented her from approaching another gladiator or apprentice so now she has a substantial number of skills but little experience fighting anything but prey-animals. She would never admit it, but the apprentice felt almost abandoned without another cat's guidance and so has grown somewhat bitter in her adolescence. Just when she began to accept that she was on her own, Bellona came back and confused her by giving her lessons on their empires leadership and caring for it. When she was invited to join on a Counter-Raid against the Bounty Hunters, she subconsciously believed it would be her chance to prove that she was the warrior her mother had raised her to be.
. However, the raid didn't go as she had planned: she over-estimated her skills as a warrior and so was caught off-guard when she finally came up against the hunters. She was able to hold her own fairly well, especially considering the age and rank difference between her and her opponent, but not nearly as well as she had expected. Although the mission was mostly a success, their failure to rescue all of the captured cats compounded with the apparent capture of Dehlia and Viatrix's disappearance were major blows to her self esteem. Compounded with the growing tigresses hormones and her first crush on the Hunter Leader, Eumenide spent the weeks following the counter-raid angry and easily provoked. As the winter continued her rage slowly burned out as she tired of holding on to her regrets about it and although she remained somewhat irritable and defensive, she calmed to focus on continuing her training and protecting her Empiremates. When she was finally called upon for her Gladiator test, she was able to use what she learned in the city to outmaneuver Tempestas despite his speed advantage and achieved the rank of Lightning Empire Gladiator.
During her first few months as Silver she buried herself in the role: organizing patrols, checking borders on her own (particularly the one with Shadow, despite Tempestas' orders to leave it be). She spent very little time in camp bonding with her Empiremates, burying her nose in what she thought was the important part of her job when she should have been with them. She didn't go with Tempestas on the diplomatic trip to the Shadow border, thinking she had 'better things to do'. When they came back reporting an attack by the Bounty Hunters whom had taken some of her and their neighbor's Empiremates her attention was snapped back to the felines she was supposed to be protecting. And with rumors of war on the horizon, it may have been just in time...
As the war approached Eumenide suddenly found her home becoming host to strangers: Vulcan of Air came as the temporary blacksmith, Laertes of Shadow while he healed, a whole patrol of Air gladiators preparing for battle...and all of this not long after the border scuffle with Shadow. Needless to say her opinion of outsiders shrank, especially when the Shadow visitor told all of the empires to engage in battle with the city on behalf of his captured mate. She was relieved when her own patrol into the city was entirely her own Empiremates. Her relief was however short-lived. During the course of the night her patrol survived but the gladiator Naram, elsewhere in the city, was struck down as was seemingly the healer Theron. Several cats waiting at home or in Air's camp were also slain or captured, further damaging her opinion of the other Empires.
Not long after the war, Tempestas made the decision to step down and she took his place as leader. She considered her role to be more of that of a guardian than a typical leader: keeping her empiremates safe so they could make their own life choices. Part of how she chose to accomplish this was, with Tempestas' support, cutting ties with the other empires and declaring their borders closed. The few Lightning cats who left to join the new Stone Empire she cut ties with, declaring them strangers. In the months that followed however many hard losses were had: her former mentor, Bellona was slain. Several of her friends including Tempestas and his family left for personal reasons and finally Taariq, who had been acting as her confidant and bodyguard, was captured while patrolling. In retaliation she lead a small strike-force into the city during the fall gathering almost a year after the war and successfully kidnapped a few Hunter tribunes. After discussion with her empiremates the decision was made to use them as leverage to negotiate a cease-fire with the hunters.
- History
Born under the coliseum, her first view of the outside world was the night sky as she left the city. Her mother taught her many life lessons as well as some of the basic skills of a warrior before she died. When she heard the purpose of the Bounty Hunters, she fled in disgust to the empires rumored to exist beyond the city walls. Once there she trained hard to perfect the skills her mother taught her as well as learn new ones from the other cats of her Empire and was rewarded at the end of her first year of life with an invitation to show what she could do in a counter-raid against the Bounty Hunters. This reward turned out to be her next big lesson: humility. Chastised that she was not a perfect warrior and still had much to learn, she continued her training with a new sense of her mission as her first year of life closed and winter opened her second.
Her second spring with Lightning turned out to be even less restful than winter. While on a routine patrol of the border with Shadow the border was found to have been moved in benefit of Lightning. Unfortunately for both empires they both had patrols passing through the area, resulting in an uncomfortable stand-off during which the tigress' faith in her empiremates and self-certainty in the rules of the empires was badly shaken. When she was approached by Tempestas and the senior gladiators, she thought it would be because of the confusion on that patrol. Instead, she was offered a place as Lightning's second-in-command which she accepted. Her opinion of the whole affair is that it will provide her a better position to protect Lightning from; she hasn't yet realized what the position actually means.

Parents:
Mother: Selene , tigress (stripeless white) [deceased]: a pit-fighter in the coliseum, she was eventually killed when an injury hindered her in a fight. Rumor was that she had once been an Empire cat, although they are certainly no more than rumors.
Sire: Nox, tiger (broad-stripe mutation) [deceased]: a mediocre bounty hunter, the yellow-eyed tiger eventually died in the line of duty, never meeting his daughter. He was part of a human breeding project to create a black fighting tiger, one that had already failed before he met Selene.

Lightning Empire
/ Viatrix
"My leader. I haven't gotten a chance to talk to her yet, but I'm thankful that she let me into her empire and will do my best to serve her."
edit: / "Seeing the way she didn't let Scion get away with showing any weakness was a shock compared to what I saw of her in the past...and I can't say it was in a bad way. Knowing that my leader is tough enough not to allow weakness in her warriors makes me feel that I really might have made the right decision when joining her Empire. A part of me wishes I could be in her patrol to watch her fight, but I have a feeling I'll be getting much more battle-practice with my group than hers. Once this is over though, I might have to find her..."
edit: / "We were almost home when she just...for lack of a better term, disappeared. I've heard rumors from pre-Raid members that the leader before her did much the same thing, abandoning his Empire for some sort of 'gods-given mission'. Is this the fate of-...of Lightning Empire? To be abandoned by their leaders and left to face threats like the Hunters unguided? I guess I'm just wondering why such a strong leader as her would do this. Tempestas doesn't seem like the type to continue this tradition, but...where did she go? And more importantly: why isn't she coming back?"
edit: "....goodbye."
/ Bellona
"My mentor...That might take a little getting used to. I haven't actually met her yet. I've seen her walking around camp before though...Although she's much smaller, she kind of reminds me of my mother..."
edit: / "Well, I've met her once and she seems like she will be able to teach me a lot about living in the Empires...but...I wish that we could train...Not that I'm upset with her! She's a gladiator, she has a lot of important things to do! It's just...well, I guess I'll have to be patient until she's less busy."
edit: "...Towards the end of my training she came back to me, but instead of helping me learn to fight she tried to teach me about politics and prepared me to become...Tempestas' Silver. I just...I guess I will never know how to feel about my mentor."
/ Cynthia
"She invited me to go running with her and we just talked. She's kind of sad like everyone else is, but I think she's a lot more in the present than many of the other cats I've watched are. She seems quite quiet, it will be interesting if I can eventually see if and how this effects the way she fights."
edit: "Heading into the counter-raid she seemed nervous. I understand why: she was just promoted recently and Viatrix was already expecting her to lead a patrol into the heart of Hunter territory. In another cat, that nervousness could have gotten us into unnecessary danger but she knew better. Handing control over to Dehlia was a smart strategic choice; my confidence in her remains strong."
/ Jayr
"He took me out for my first time ever hunting with other cats. He really seems to know what to do, and I was finally able to learn a bit more about how an Empire cat hunts and works! It didn't hurt that I got my first experience hunting large prey (the kind of prey the two adult tigers seem to hunt more). He seems to mainly use speed when hunting...I wonder if that holds true for his fighting style...In any case, I hope I find the opportunity to train with this gladiator again."
/ Adin
"One of the early lessons I learned in reading an opponent is how they express themselves. A cat that goes flying into a rage or lets you see when they hurt is usually a pretty easy kill. Adin isn't like that, which is weird because he doesn't even know how to fight. What's weirder is that he admitted he doesn't to a stranger like me. He always seems so calm and happy...it makes me nervous because those are the cats you have to watch out for. He probably couldn't overpower a bigger cat like I'm built to be, but when you're that clear-headed you don't have to, do you."
edit: / "So he's learned a thing or two since he's joined in fighting. With his relaxed attitude, I'm sure he'll be a great asset to our Empire."
:bullblue:/ Aleeza
"It seems that I came into Lighting in time to see a rush of tigers joining. It's hard to believe that I was as small as she is once, I'll have to keep an eye on her to see how she does. I know that it's only because she's a young cub, but...I can't help but think of her as kind of cute and sweet."
Edit: /
Edit: I haven't spoken to her in a long time, but that little cub is growing up into a skilled little gladiator. I'm proud that I was able to meet her and watch her progress."
/ Astuiette
"She's a quick learner and quite observant, a handy set of skills that will definitely help her as she continues to train. I look forward to watching her grow and perhaps fighting beside her someday."
/ Dehlia
"I was rather impressed by her idea of splitting up to make the appearance of larger numbers during the counter-raid. I don't know her, but I think I'm starting to see why she was named Silver."
edit: / "Note to self: don't get in the middle of arguments between her and Tempestas."
/ Percy
(subject to change as the rp progresses)
"So, this snow tigerpard was an Athenian Bounty-in-training before coming out here? Impressive, he can't be all that much older than me. Maybe he has a trick or two to teach me yet...though I should probably do something to make up for being so brusque to him earlier. Sorry, new guy, thanks for the deer-hunt. They can't keep you an apprentice forever."
Edit: "Percy was one of the cats captured in the ambush. I can't stop blaming myself for not being there, whether to protect them or teach the hunters a lesson about invading Lightning territory. I hope they're alive at least."
Edit: "A little battered, but you survived. Welcome back."
/ Ryder
"This new guy...he's kind of like Adin but with some fighting skill. He just showed up while I was trying to calm down and started talking with me about things; the raid and such. First he says my name is "pretty", then he questions the Empire's ability to protect itself from Hunters, then he starts challenging me? Hah, I might not have the size or experience in the pits you do, but I'm not a total novice anymore. Let's see what you've got, new cat."
Edit: / "....strange gladiator-cub..." *rolls eyes* "Do any other cats have issues with practically-stranger gladiators being so...well, touchy?"
Edit: / "Really Ryder? The Shadow-healer attacked Rhodes first, I think she can take care of herself! Rhodes was just following the laws, just as the healer was. So it's madness to want to defend our territory from intruders, is it? You never struck me as a coward, but I'm not sure what else to call your resistance to protect Lightning's border."
/ Roxanne
"I don't know her very well. She was one of the cats we got out of the city, so she must be pretty strong to have lasted the year. She seems like a friendly cat, perhaps we'll find time to talk again."
/ Tempestas
"I have to respect our impromptu new leader for...how does the saying go? 'Keeping the wagon from overturning'? I heard he called the retreat of the distraction patrol while we got the rescued cats out and he's done a respectable job keeping Lightning from falling apart with the disappearance of Viatrix and Dehlia. Beyond that, I don't know him personally."
/ "Lightning has gotten stronger and about as stable as one could expect under his leadership. I'm not sure I would call us "friends", but I can certainly go to him with questions. My only issue with his leading strategy is: why the Hades is he letting all of the other empires stay in Lightning's camp?!"
edit: "Your tactics are confusing, you worry too much and...I'm really going to miss your guidance....don't think just because you're retiring you can escape me, or that your children won't get the training they need.
...enjoy retirement, Tempestas."
/ Damasen
"I don't know Damasen very well, but he never struck me as the cowardly type per se....So why for the turning of the sun in the sky did he insist we not fight with that Shadow patrol? They were on land marked as ours, it's our job to chase out intruders! He and Ryder....with the number of cats on both sides who seemed reluctant to defend that strip of land I sometimes wonder if the rules I was told when I was allowed to stay weren't just suggestions rather than rules."
EDIT: / "In the ambush, we lost a few cats. I guess I forgot how that can hurt my Empiremates, and it seems Damasen is one of those who lost someone important to them. He apologized for the border incident....I guess cats change. I hope we can save those who were captured, if only to help those who were strong enough to stay."
Slate
"He's a quiet gladiator, a little timid, but a very loyal one. I don't know many of my empiremates personally but Slate is one of the ones I have a soft spot for."
/ Alekto
"My apprentice...I never thought I would see the day. Her enthusiasm should get her far, it is my honor to teach her when and what I can."
Shadow Empire
/ Adisha
"I ran into this apprentice while I was out patrolling. Honestly, I don't know what to think: I thought she was supposed to be the enemy because she's not in my Empire, but then she got all sad and I think I scared her when I reminded her that we might have to fight each other someday...Is it okay to be friends with an outsider? I mean, we're not on the same side, but we are, but...I don't know...These Empire cats just seem harder and harder to understand every day."
Bounty Hunters
/ Thanatos
"I didn't see much of him during the Counter-Raid, but from what I did he seems like a pretty powerful cat. Besides Scion and my mother, he was the first full-grown tiger I've ever seen so maybe I just don't know what most adult tigers are like.....for a while after I found myself wandering to the edge of Lightning's territory where you can faintly see the city and just thinking about what might have happened if I'd never left..."
**Note** Eumenide doesn't understand or value romantic feelings. If faced with any Bounty Hunter she would fight no-holds-barred and if approached about love she wouldn't at this time know how to react.
Outside of the Empires
Aeros
"Although I never got to meet him, he seemed very important to my mother. He must have been very brave to encourage her to fight with him although they were friends, and he wasn't angry with her when she defeated him. I wear his scarf proudly, as well as carrying his message in my heart."
