Strangely I thought Kyle was Sodam Yat before I saw the crab mask.

It's a vest, and it's very... vesty, I guess.

Don't worry, I'll get to Sodam Yat sooner or later.

is the middle guy the one that slept with Blackfire in ur comic series?

What-the-Gaff In reply to Magic-AL [2008-03-01 05:20:46 +0000 UTC]

No, the one who slept with Blackfire was Kyle Rayner, the guy on the left. You may not recognize him because of the crab mask.

Kyle was always my favorite lantern cuz his energy constructs were always the most impressive.

They were always more elaborate, that's for certain.

Awesome work on the chibi lanterns. And I don't mind the crab mask, though I did prefer his first "post-Ion" costume.

Yeah, his second GL costume was cool too. He should have just stuck with that one.

Agreed. His current one is OK but I'd have prefered it if he went back to his second one.

When I draw Kyle, I shall be sure to draw him with the crab mask. AND I SHALL DO IT RIGHT! Huzzah!

...

Do you have a favorite GL, Gaff?

I started reading GL when Kyle was the man. I identified with him as an artist, so he was my favorite first.

But I also like the gung-ho attitude of Hal Jordan, and Geoff Johns' treatment of his character in a post 9-11 world really appeals to me. I was in Brooklyn when the towers fell, you know. I could see the smoke, and I've seen what fear does to people.

I like Guy Gardner, because he reminds me of Dennis Leary. I loved John Stewart in the animated Justice League. I like Kilowog because he's like your uncle who looks like a hippo-man. That guy is just fun to be around.

I think I just like the Green Lanterns in general.

Man, that is just an awesome way to look at it.
Thank you, Gaff.

God, I remember when I thought the crab mask was a good idea...

What-the-Gaff In reply to SpawnGuy [2008-02-29 19:19:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, really. Most artists don't even draw the crab mask on him, and when they do, it's really pretty half-assed. It's like even they can't believe they're being made to do it.

It's hard to make it look good. I've tried. Then there's the armour.

Kyle's first suit isn't BAD as such compared to what I've seen most of the Corps wearing, it's just pure Ninties. You can just tell they satdown, thought about it and thought at the time "Hey, this kick ass! It's metal and he can pose in it!". Then again. back then, Spider-Man's Brand New Day storyline would have seemed kickass.

Whish is ironic because the entire point of the clone saga was to get rid of Married Spidey.

Is that why they were doing it? Huh. I guess I can understand that. Personally, I don't like how they arrived at Brand New Day, but I am interested to see where they go from there.

They aren't going to go anywhere though. Marvel's been terrorfied of actually moving Spidey on from the late eigties (Or any period where he was poor and single) for years. All they've done so far is throw new villians at as and make Spidey...kinda like how he first started out after he got bit. He's a douche who keeps wondering why the world isn't handing him everything he wants and in the background there's the knowledge that he brought it on himself agreeing to that deal. He's a characatuer stuck with outdated storytelling styles, just like how he was after they killed MJ off in early 2000. Again, a bad story and overall direction as a result of somthing that actually took Peter forward. What, the everyman can't get married to? And because Marvel and Joe Q think "Everyman" means dumping crap on Peter and making him a swinging bacholer, books like FF and Flash run rings around Peter as an ordinary guy.

I have a massive vent in my journal about this and several other message boards, and it's my opinon not yours anyway, so I'll stop wasting your time, but trust me: check it out but it's not going to justify itself or anything it's done or anything that's been done to get to this point. All your going to get is a Spidey with noting to show for 45 years in the buisness and series of jokes that would actually be funny if they weren't trying so hard to be funny.
