Oh, these are so gorgeous!!! They look so serene & comfortable!! It was me who asked you, but I've since googled them, and they aren't tortoiseshells at all.

The gray one is named Faith and the multi-colored dark one's name is Ewok. Very cute, they're sisters. Ewok is the one who lacks a tail and is always curious about any tail she happens to find. Faith is dying but is very majestic and high and might about herself. Even on her last days it seems.

Oh no - Faith is dying??!!! How old is she? I dread the day that any of our cats die.

I've read a beautiful story about a tailless cat & I wish that I could send you a copy because it's excellent - so excellent that I've never forgotten it & I keep the book of short stories about cats that it's in, in my room.

Those are great names for cats, and it's so good that they're sisters and still together. Oh, Ewok is going to miss Faith so much.

She's not too old, her sister is doing fine. She just has an illness where she can't go to the bathroom and so it builds up in her body. She has to take some pills but it's just to make the process less painful. She acts perfectly normal. You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at her.

If you ever find out more about it let me know so I can look it up.

I love the names too... especially Ewok. Poor cat will be all alone facing off the two dogs my aunt also owns. LOL it'll be hilarious to watch but also sad.

The short story is called "The Islands" by Alice Adams. I've got it in an anthology of stories, poems & miscellaneous writings about cats called "The Sophisticated Cat", chosen by Joyce Carol Oates & Daniel Halpern. I really love this story!!

Oh, poor Ewok - I hope the dogs won't bully her, but maybe she'll be one doing the bullying!!
