Description It won't happen again, he claims
But his hands are shaking
And his breathing erratic
Maybe the world really is cruel
He looks so sad when he's alone
So could this truly be so wrong?

That question makes them stop
Pausing as if mulling over the impossible
But really what did they expect
When he broke every single rule
Each rule broken to reach a certain goal
The prize at the end of the tunnel
Which is their most beloved treasure.

He's crying as he reaches through the veil
Who can deny him when his pain is evident
When he's screaming out into the open air
Demanding something he never possessed at all
But really, who can blame him for wanting her?

She's just a girl in the shadows
Looking over her shoulder as she smiles
Never once thinking of anything other than-
Wait, what is he doing now?

He's bleeding and crying and sobbing and dying
But that's not important in the slightest
This undeserving thing has just found her
And now they're talking as he dies slowly in her presence
She puts his head in her lap and listens to his words
The lies are spun easily as he claims to love her
His trembling is getting worse and his eyes duller
But she doesn't seem to mind as she smiles at him
Then he dies and all is right with the world again.

Her friends show up and take the broken body
All the while apologizing for the one who got through
But she just nods looking sad.

Who told them they could make her a treasure to be hidden?
Who told them they could keep her from the world and love?

Honestly... she'd rather die but she can't
So instead she stays in her little world
Smiling over her shoulder and humming a little song
Sinking into the shadows and never thinking of the boy who died
Too busy considering her own misfortune and grievance.

"Oh pity me! For I can never leave!"
While he will forever rot.

This is excellent. You've made something incredible out of the somewhat cliched storyline that you've written about under the poem.

I know... I loathe this cliche and it's one I used to write quite often. Well yesterday I was annoyed at myself so I ruined it... and now I like this one better. The girl in this story... she makes me think of Daisy from The Great Gatsby

Daisy was so self-involved - so filled with her self & her own stories & life, wasn't she? Is that what you thought too? We had to do the book for high school, and it was just when the movie with Mia Farrow & Robert Redford & Bruce Dern came out, so we were taken by bus from Castlemaine to Bendigo Twin Cinemas (now called the Golden Twin Cinema) to see the film.

Before that, we did MacBeth, and we were sent to see the Roman Polanski movie of it, which was wonderful. It's still my favorite version.

I definitely noticed that about Daisy, I never could like her although I was always amused by the things that came out of her mouth. sounds like you had fun in high school!

After the first few years of being bullied etc were over, I kind of really enjoyed high school. I must tell you via email about the two high school reunions that I couldn't attend.
