Started yesterday by free-handedly referencing a pencil portrait from a book I own by Oliver Sin. It was all in pencil at first, but then I added the hairstyle, ears, and wings by referencing separate online images. Then I decided to add watercolor to it. It ended up getting too saturated with paint where the excessive pencil shading was and so I had to carefully work around it, hoping to redeem it. Thankfully I managed it and actually put two pieces of tape on the other side of the paper where the water bled through it and made a small, unnoticeable hole in it. I didn't want this to look as animated as it does, as it was mostly pencil shading to start with. But it was from this experience that I've learned to leave heavily pencil shaded areas alone when it comes to watercolor.
