First this is Gorgeous.
The hair transitioning into water is beautifully done the colors work harmoniously together. I like the way the hair looks like its moving with the waves.
It has a lovely textured look, My only critique is the dolphins are a bit distracting and don't have the same amount of detail as the rest of the piece.
Her face is enchanting I definitely focus in on her eyes they are beautiful especially the iris. The lashes frame the eyes in a way that accentuates the iris.
Your use of highlighting really adds the perfect amount definition to this piece.

Love your work.

First, I like this very much. In particular I like your choice of palette. The cool tones of the skin make a smooth transition towards the ocean, and in turn, the warm tones of the dolphin soften the effect of the ginger hair. The girl's left eye (on the right) is stunning. The purples unify the whole piece.

However, I don't quite buy the right side of the face (on the left... lol is it always so confusing?!). It almost looks like the face is being squashed, or pulled out off the paper. It's most visible on the eye, but also to some degree on the girl's pinky. The tip of her nose might be a touch too cold or too pronounced, too (it looks like a dent). Finally, I feel like the transition between the left hand and the water is a bit too abrupt.

Overall, this is striking. Thumbs up!

I like this piece. She seems kind of torn; like she wants to return to sea but there is something keeping her from doing so.
The idea of blending the waves with her hair is an interesting style.
Using one hand to cover half of her face creates a much more interesting look than a simple portrait.
I also love!!!!! her freckles. Freckles are so beautiful, people should draw them more often.
My one critique would be that if you gave yourself more room on the image, make the face a little smaller, you could blend the water with the hair much more subtly.
Overall, you did a great job!

Let me just say first that I love how this looks, and please feel free to ignore my suggestions/comments - I throw them out there, you can throw them out too e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>.

This may only be a result of the angle of the picture/scan of the image, but her face seems a very little slanted toward the upper right corner of the frame. Likewise, some of the waves or droplets closest to the dolphins could perhaps be blended further (although this is entirely a matter of opinion).

On the other hand, I loved the technique you used for the skin--scumbling over the natural tone of the paper with a lighter pastel to give the appearance of further natural freckles/varieties in coloration, correct? I also appreciated the faintly iridescent green and purple tones/highlights present on the face, particularly in the hollow of the eyes and bridge of the nose, mirroring the tones present in the water. Her eyes are also an excellent example of pattern or rhythm--their tones echo the color of the water perfectly, helping to unify the piece. The gradations of color in the hair--from orange to pink/purple to blue--are delicate and subtle, a particularly notable feat in the small space available.

In sum, this is a gorgeous work, and rendered particularly appealing--in my opinion--by your choice of medium (but I am admittedly biased in favor of chalk pastels e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/> ). Thanks for posting!

I love your ability to use the medium in such a way. Blending, but almost not blending, if it were. Very rich in its depth and shadows!

The look of this piece speaks to me, she is in her dream world and not quite out of it yet with it swirling about her. Her whimsical expression is very surreal. Almost feel as though you are actual with her in her dream state as the waves gently pull away. Very imaginative and unique.

Thank you so much for sharing! I truly love this piece, and I hope to see more of them from you.

I love this piece, the flow is gorgeous.
My eyes do drift to the dolphins a bit; I find the dolphins are not as detailed as the rest of the piece.
Favorite part are how enchanting I find the eyes.
Beautiful

Overall I like the drawing a lot.. itΒ΄s like smelling the freshness of the oceans air and feeling the release of the wind blowing away all thoughts...

There are just a few points I recognized and since you asked for critique I will let you know .

-the color of the water reminds me more of colder oceans instead of places were I would expect dolphins to live
-shadows under the chin/between the fingers are less dark in comparison to the shadow casted by the hand
-the incredibly realistic eye seems to be the most realistic and detailed part of your whole drawing.. maybe you could bring the level of detail/realism a bit more close?

Thank you for your in depth analysis. I find it odd you would picture it a cold ocrean though, they're mostly not blue (speaking from experience )

Efeuelfe In reply to WhimsicalChiko [2017-08-23 06:34:53 +0000 UTC]

It is my pleasure. Thats right, the really cold ones are not as blue as this one here, for me it looked a bit like the north sea or so and thatΒ΄s why I probably have not associated dolphins with it.
