Description
Astrid Kolfinnsdottir
She is an Arctic mermaid who is one of the main characters in the Waterfire Saga. She is the daughter of Evyör and Kolfinn, ruler of Ondalina; younger sister of Ragnar, descendant of Orfeo and love interest of Desiderio, Serafina's older brother.
Personality?
Insecure, doubtful, helpful, sarcastic, tough, humorous, blunt, difficult, hot-headed, brave, loyal.
Astrid has shown a great dislike to Serafina and even accused her of trying to assassinate her father, which isn't true. In response, Serafina also believed Astrid and her father were trying to take over the entire mer realms and believed them to be in league with Traho. However, she later discovers the truth and slowly gets over her grudge for Serafina and they become firm friends.
She holds a deep secret that Becca finds out in Dark Tide the third book. It seems that for some reason, Astrid can not cast Songspells like the other mermaids. Because of this, her father made her swear never to reveal to anyone because he is afraid no one would ever want her.
“She’s blunt, difficult, and a bit of a hothead, but also courageous and loyal, and loves to ride hippokamps and orcas.”―Jennifer Donnelly describing Astrid.
Rebecca "Becca" Quickfin
She is a mermaid from Atlantica and is one of the main characters in the Waterfire Saga. She is the descendant of Pyrrha, has a crush on Marco, a terragog or human, and is talented at casting waterfire.
Becca is the most practical of the mermaids, coming from a chaotic background, she would constantly plan things to make life neat and orderly. She has a tendency to be organised and efficient, with a quick-thinking and responsible attitude. She is strong and brave, as when she defended herself against three rusalka. It can also be noted that Becca is sure of herself and is quite intelligent.
She was orphaned at a young age when her father died of mercury poisoning and her mother was killed by longline hooks. She went to an orphanage and when she was older she became a worker at the songpearl shop Baudel.
Becca, while travelling through Atlantica, meets up with Astrid accidently and, though reluctant at first, helps her make magic by creating a whale bone pipe. She then becomes good friends with Astrid.

Ending of Chapter 16 Dark Tide
"I've got to get that talisman from the Williwaw." She was quiet for a bit , then added, "You want to help her too. I know you do. I saw it in your eyes."
"I don't know what I want," Astrid said miserably.
"Then it's a good thing I do," said Becca.
She swam back to where she'd been sitting, picked up the object she'd been working on and handed it to Astrid. In Becca's clever hands, the whalebone had become a slim, graceful pipe. It had a tapered mouthpiece and several stops.
Astrid looked at it uncertainly. " It's beautiful, Becs. It's more than beautiful--- it's amazing." She raised her eyes to Becca's.
"But what am I supposed to do with it?"
Becca smiled. "Make magic."

Ok I had been meaning to submit this picture for a long time but I've been busy with other things to do so.
Anyway I like these because they show that for every problem there is a solution. If you just take the time to look hard enough.
And I love all the characters with the exception of the villains but that's neither here nor there. I think this moment is one of those that
really stood out for me in the series so far.
Astrid and Becca belong to Jennifer Donnelly and Disney Hyperion.
Design for them was done on Azalea Dolls Mermaid Scene maker.
