I haven't been entirely unproductive lately. And I was suggested by Dahkur (who was herself suggested by Damon1984 ) to occassionally post sketch dumps to keep my hands in. It's also a nice way to show my sketches, so have "Two and a half Cardssians" (thx to LordXanathos who recommended the title!
)Lesun, the guy on top, left, is half Bajoran, half Cardassian, so quite literally the 1/2 in this pic. Here he's around 20 years old. He's a gentle guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. Living on Cardassia Prime he decided not to wear his Bajoran earring other than while praying or during religious holidays. He's Duna Ryrea's son, for all of you who know my Bajoran OC.
The girl in Command uniform and one of my two Cardassian Starfleet OCs is Marina. Just Marina. She entered Starfleet using a cover name to ensure the safety of her family. That code name was "Malinar", which was soon changed to "Marina" by eager classmates at SF Academy. She stuck to it, because what even are names?
And last but not least my LARP character Simar Tusad. The one in the full body sketch. I tried to stay relatively close to my own appearance and body type for obvious reasons. She's the Chief Engineering Officer of the USS Atlas, a Luna-class starship. She was also supposed to stand in front of the warp core and hold a tool of sorts, but I got lazy...

During the Occupation of Bajor, Lesun's mother was a politically active collaborator who tried to help her people that way. At some point she got pregnant by Lesun's father, whom she could convince to let the child live. They stuck together, and when after the Occupation Lesun's mother was exiled, she and their then 9-year-old son followed his father to Cardassia. Lesun's parents got married to give his Bajoran mother and Lesun somewhat of a standing (and by doing so the father lost some of his, but they are his family.)Β

Not any more. I'm mostly roleplaying Stargate Atlantis these days, although I have currently more-or-less revived a very old Cardassian soldier character.

The Stargate movie of 1994? I used to love it, but these days the concept of the SGA alien species of the Wraith fascinated me more. Unfortunately they have the same problem as Cardies; too little actual screen time. XD

i really like the story, having some parallels with my character Bila. In his case his mother is also a collaborator, making not so obvious work for the cardassian goverment. They lived in a cardassian outpost in bajor, and Bila saw her rarely till they need to scape from there, he never knew how or why. After a time they fled to Federation space as refugees, after being stuck in a camp for more than a year. Still there Bila's mother has douvious works, and he'd always suspect she keep being a cardassian spy, but he'd never asked due there are some things he prefers not to know. But for him is a running joke tell treason runs in his family... in his bajoran family. XD

I think Lesun's Cardassian parent came closer to treason by protecting his mother as fiercely as he did. Since she never stopped trying to help her people.
That reminds me, I have a few works of her you may or may not like. No need to check them out any time soon (or at all), but I get the impression you are genuinely interested. ^^

I agree, drawing hands is one of the hardest things to do. Drawing feet is also a pain in the... um..., but at least, feet can be hid in shoes 8[

You're right, drawing feet is just as much of a pain! The use of "but(t)" just after "um" amused me, by the way. ;D I always thought that the Bajoran nose ridges went well with the spoon, ever since I saw Ziyal for the first time. A pity both nations don't seem to share our opinion...
When I want to fit Cardassian necks into Starfleet uniforms, I take Rise's pictures as a reference. I think she's fit Vekal's neck into the Legacy design quite nicely! And at some point before I LARPed Simar I must have seen your character design picture of Torell, because I remember thinking of her when I dressed up for the event. I had run out of time to make a proper Cardassian neck model, but I thought that she looked great without "ausgeprΓ€gte SchulterkΓ€mme", too.

Marina Looks beautiful. I love the shading you did on her, I love the eyes and I especially love how the nose turned out. The smirk on Lesun is just priceless. He looks so pleased with himself.
And then of course Simar Tusad - great work on her. When I imagine her with a tool in her hands in front of a warp core it's just perfect. And her features look like the pics I've seen of your LARP.

Oh my gosh, my sketched hands always look like that. XD Well, either that or like a very vaguely hand-shaped mass. XD Hands are also usually the last things I work out, so in sketches they are unlikely to be very elaborated. Maybe I'd need some practice in hand drawing... But I so much prefer to learn by doing instead of drawing a set of e.g. hands, eyes, etc.
But yes, I'm positively surprised by the sketchdump. I'm pretty happy with this one, and it got nice feedback, too. <3 I might keep doing that, though I don't think monthly. My drawing mood is too unsteady for that.
Marina is a rather "old" character (maybe 3 years?) for this being the first reference picture I ever did of her. I even drew other people's Cardassian OCs before her (which made her miffed, you can imagine. ;D). It was hard to capture the mental image I had of her, and for days I changed her features and wasn't really sure I did it right. But now I think I'm satisfied. Maybe my mental image only adjusted to the pic.
Lesun does looks pleased with himself, doesn't he? Almost like Dukat. 
Maybe I'll finish Simar one day. Maybe. XD We'll see. But thanks for the compliment about the features! It means a lot!

Also engineering nerds~ I've got a couple gearheads who'd probably get really chatty if they got together lol.

Simar says that, oh yes, she has heard the stories of how coil spanners and flux couplers are apparently more often used to kill someone than to get some actual engineering work done. She's amused, though, by the idea of Alyn having a coil spanner by her bed because it's great for more than just engineering. ^^
