You couldn’t see my face,
Just knowing I was there
A stranger holding you at midnight

I was someone else that night
I could never see
You pulled me apart, to a place
Where I became me
Cause I know what it’s like to feel
I know what it’s like to cry
When the world is fighting you
And there’s nothing left inside
I see the tears on your face
And then I feel your pain
Your joy isn’t enough for me
I want to be your shame
Now you’re fading from this life
I clutch you to my chest
“I love you” forms at your lips
I tell you softly “Rest”
You ask if I will stay with you
Little do you realize
I’ll be there forever
Wherever that may lie.
Cause I know what it’s like to feel
I know what it’s like to cry

Beautiful and honest. I don't remember ever realizing I was going to have to add a poem to my favorites after just the first stanza before...I've lost a lot of faith in rhyme lately, but it's used to amazing effect here.
