Wh...where am I? The last thing I remember was coming home after attending a dinner party with Virgil, now I'm standing in the middle of Queen city park...in my costume! Ok, Theena think. As i stood there looking around at my surroundings i noticed there was something different about the park something..off.I begin to walk and all is quiet, perhaps too quiet as I feel eyes on me..watching my every move I look around and see no one! My heart begins to race and the uneasiness mounts up inside me....soon I see a fog forming then a sharp pain crashes into the back of my head, my vision goes narrow and my legs buckle, soon another blow to the head this
one not as sharp or maybe Im numb, I barely feel the grass as I fall...into darkness.
Soon I'm nudged awake, it takes abit for my vision to return as my head pounds..I try and sit up only to find that I can't move my arms very well, no doubt I'm restrained. I look up in my blurred vision and see
Crimson Dynamo my good friend and fellow superheroine, I begin to think the worst..Dark Crimson has returned!
I call out to Crimson to get an answer to what's happening, why she knocked me out...Crimson turns around just as my vision returns to normal and the sight grips me, Crimson's face is a skull her body decayed....
Crimson Dynamo: Hello Athena, so nice to see you're finally awake...though it won't be for long!
White Owl: Crim..I..I don't understand what's happening!?!What...happened to you?
Crimson Dynamo: Oh now you care!! YOU are the reason for this Athena, you left town to do your little job, the job you were suppose to do was back me up! Instead with my lack of knowledge of Queen City, I was befallen by the worst that the city had to offer! All because I trusted YOU!! Well now I won't make that mistake! Don't bother trying to break out of that cement I have a power dampener clamped to your wrist, you're quite helpless...
White Owl: This is Craziness, you can't be dead! I..
Galaxy Girl: Believe it Owly! She's totally been in a mood and stuff...
White Owl: V..Val!? You two...?
Galaxy Girl: As you can see Crimson wasn't the only one that was affected by the great "White Owl" The info your contact gave me and Major turned out bad as we were cut down in a hail of bullets...
Crimson Dynamo: Come on Athena, the others are DYING to see you!
White Owl: The others? Wait, just wait a second none of this makes any sense!!
Galaxy Girl: Oh there is no waiting! Our killers didn't wait for us...and seeing how this is your fault you'll get no such luck from us.
Elly: Oh look who it is girls...the one who made this all possible!
Major Mystery: Finally the gangs all here....
Golden Girl: I get dibs on the first cut *grins* You'll pay for what you did to Crimson!
Crimson Dynamo: You fancy water right Athena? Well me and the girls were thinking a pool party!
White Owl: Look..I had nothing to do with what happen to you all!
Major Mystery: WRONG! This was all you! There is no talking your way out of this!
Galaxy Girl: I have the cement, but wouldn't it be better to just buy her a pair of shoes?
Golden Girl: *Face palm* Val it's another expression...
Galaxy Girl: Oh, I see...
Crimson Dynamo: Enough! Let's get to work, get her legs in the tub and fill it with cement!
Elly: Hope you can hold your breath Owly hehe.
I couldn't believe what was happening, all of my friends were dead but how? When? none of it made any sense and trying to talk them out of it wasn't an option...they finished their grim work, I was going to be dumped in the Queen City river and I wasn't able to find a way out. Golden Girl lifted me up and the other girls took flight with her we flew through the cool night air and I all I could think was that this was some horrible dream.
Soon we were above the Queen City river and the girls passed judgement on me...and I was released as I was falling I could see them all looking at
me , then I crashed into the river the dark and murky waters wrapped around me like a blanket..as i continued to sink Crimson floated down to me I could hear her voice in my mind. "I'm not about the let the water take you, I want you for myself!" she reached out and grabbed my throat I looked into her glowing green eyes and screamed!!
Tiffany: Whoa! Hey Athena, easy hon!
Athena: What...where..?
Tiffany: Hehe, it's ok you were having a bad dream is all, I came by because I forgot my scarf. I saw that you were having a nightmare and shook you from it. You ok?
Athena: Yea...I'm alright..
I looked around and saw my apartment, and sighed with relief Crimson was standing next to me a look of concern on her face. I assured her I was ok as she left, I locked the door. Ok no more late night parties for awhile....
sent this wonderfully macbre dream! I really gotta watch what I eat at these late parties!

I clicked through a "more from" thumbnail because I was curious about the very different art style.
Great story; I didn't see the ending (arguably cliche as it is) coming.

Grotesque but funny at the same time. The decayed heroines are brilliantly done; the skeletal shapes, the tattered uniforms, the frightening expressions. The park background with the dark grey sky; wonderful. The dialogue still manages to capture some of their endearing mannerisms and poor Athena is a most pretty victim. I could go on praising this but I know Jay is the modest sort and it would only embarrass him.

The scene kind of reminds me of The Black Lantern Corps in the "Blackest Night" comic series.

At last, Some art!
Not knocking any of the writers here, they deserve credit too for their entries, but I was getting disapointed that there has been very little visual renders for this nightmare contest.

Wow! I really love this. What an excellent twist on all of us and the circumstances. Boy, our subconscious minds can sure play some nasty tricks on us!
