I stumbled across an article that documented a flood at the abbey of Clonmacnoise; it was so bad it got into the Abbot's quarters.

When the scriptorium flooded Aidan was determined to get on the move, when suddenly he discovered Cellach couldn't swim. With the water pushing them up to the ceiling, Aidan told the young apprentice to hang on to him as he dove underneath the watery depts. The illuminator swam quickly down the winding corridors desperately trying to find a way out. He slammed against the doors of the submerged abbey only to lose his breath. There was no way he could get up to the surface with Cellach in time. The young apprentice kicked fiercely, trying his hardest to keep them going as the water began to drag them down below.
But when all seemed hopeless, Abbot Matthias dove in and pulled the two up to safety. Brother Syrus and Cellach's sister, Ceather, run to the trio and helped get them to shore. The young apprentice couldn't help but smile as his sister flung her arms around him. He looked off to the side to find Aidan being supported by his brothers. Abbot Arsalan could only weep at the destruction and loss of his gold.
