I would cast him as Jekyll/Hyde or Graf von Krolock first, but if you played the Phantom as truly depraved and wicked, Black Hat would make a fine Phantom too. Β Only question is does he have the spellbinding baritone for the part? Β He could NEVER be a tenor with his personality.
