Description
EDIT: added the story~ ;o;' one more to go (for Gale, that is)
And here's Gale's second trial, the journey trial. Originally, I was just going to do the center one (along a cliff edge) for her trial, but... with the formatting of the last one, I decided to torture myself to have some kind of similar theme along the trials and just continue on with this layout.
The journey trial is a test for endurance, compatibility and strength as well as the will to survive.
Gale was once again accompanied by Jettari, whom actually was her guide through the mountains from Udreim to the capitol; being both of the hearty sort, and used to the harsh cold weather, the trip itself was not difficult at all, and while Gale did not care for the fact that they lacked a fire and had to cross some really narrow paths, she was over all, proud of herself and her ability to travel such a long distance with little trouble. There was a point when a small blizzard hit and they were forced to camp inside a cave, but with Jettari on guard, Gale was able to sleep peacefully.
Also, can I just say, I love their colors together? like... it's probably just the monochrome lover in me adoring the blue hues, but like... I really like how his dark blue works pretty much hand in hand with her blues. Just pft... anyhows~ getting side tracked.
Here's the story to go with this set of images~
After successfully completing her first trial, Gale was ready to take on the next; either the journey to Roenden’s capitol, or the loyalty trial where all she’d have to do was go through a course. However, after a bit of stubborn arguing- on her part- she eventually settled to wait awhile before she’d take on either trial, needing time to recover from the last trial she went through. As disappointed as she was, it did give her time to think and contemplate her next trial. Would she go for the journey trial? See the world? Or at least other parts of Roenden she hadn’t been allowed to visit quite yet. Or, would she go for the loyalty trial? Perhaps ask a close friend to guide her through the obstacle course? She honestly wasn’t sure.
A few nights passed as she wrestled with the decision. On one hand, she could travel to the capitol, and take her loyalty test there, likely with a complete stranger; or, on the other hand, she could take her loyalty test here, with one of her friends. There seemed to be an obvious choice here, but yet, Gale was still conflicted. What if she wasn't ready for such a big change? What if something happened on the journey to the capitol? What if she never returned home?
The thoughts plagued her, long into her sleep, even tampering with her dreams. By time morning came, she had come to a decision, and although a conflict still resided in the back of her mind, she was he'll bent on going through with her choice no matter the consequences.
Heading out to where Clyde was standing with the other young vayrons, most of whom were preparing for their loyalty trial, she inhaled deeply as she waited for Clyde's attention to turn upon her. When the sooty male did finally glance over to her, she held her head up proudly as she declared "I'm ready to take the journey to the capitol" she said. A few of the younger vayrons looked at her in shock, fr everyone knew the travel to Roenden's capitol was a long and treacherous one; some have even gone on the trip, only to never return.
"If you are sure Gale, then all I need to know is who you are traveling with" Clyde said, having confidence in the young female that she'd be able to survive the journey. Gale faltered in that moment, having gone through the difficult process of deciding on which trial she'd proceed with, only to forget one of the most important pieces; a companion. Wincing a bit, her ears flicked back as she thought about who she could possibly ask to go on this journey with. It actually didn't take long for someone to come to mind, the female lifting her head abruptly when it did "I know just who to ask" she said before quickly darting off towards the woods.
The one she hoped would go on this journey with her wasn't actually a resident of Icewind, as a matter of fact, she wasn't sure if he belonged to any village, but for some reason, she did think she could simply find him in a short time. It was actually pure luck that she did, seeing as how the roamer vayron didn't longer too long in one spot; yet Gale happened across the male after a bit of time searching for him.
Upon spotting the dark blue coat of Jettari, Gale let out a greeting bark, tail waving in the wind behind her. "I'm so glad I found you Jet" she called out, as if their one meeting during her hunting trial was a life-long bonding experience. To be completely honest, the male was surprised to see the fanciful female again, though he did well to hide it; flicking his ears back as he huffed slightly, not sure if this was going to be an on-going experience with her.
Once she made her approach and stopped a few feet from him, Gale shuffled nervously, not sure how to ask besides bluntly. "So uhm, Jet... I was thinking that uhm... well, if you didn't mind... would it be alright if I asked you to be my company across the mountains to the capitol for my journey trial?" Visibly shrinking as much as a bulky puller could, Gale looked to Jettari hopefully. The male gave a heavy sigh, now realizing the consequence of helping someone out with their first hunt -supposedly - frowning a bit as he weighed his options.
Eventually he answered, finding little harm in guiding the female on her trip; he was headed in that direction after all. "Alright... but one condition... we go my way through the mountains " he said, his tone firm and final. Gale nodded quickly and excitedly, not knowing what 'his way' entailed but quite relived at finding herself a companion for the trip. "I can go get the supplies right no-" she started but was cut off by Jettari. "We'll start tomorrow morning, at first sunlight..." he turned to head off leaving Gale there, a bit dumbfounded.
"Oh, alright then, I'll uhm, get everything ready then!" She said, hesitating for a moment and wanting to question why they had to wait, but deciding not to ask and instead heading back to her village and trusting that he knew what he was doing.
The next morning came at a snail's pace, thanks to Gale's eagerness for her trial to begin, but as soon as she managed to fall asleep, dawn was upon her and she was awoken by the stable hand. Being greeted with the brisk chill of the early morning air, Gale shivered slightly as she stood in the stall, waiting to get tacked up. Groggily, she regretted staying up too late thinking about the day to come and not preparing for it better, but after hearing her companion walk into the stable, she immediately perked up. “Good morning Jet!” she chimed happily, though the puller didn’t seem thrilled to be up this early either- though, that could be his default setting. Either way, Gale quieted herself after such and kept her thoughts to herself as the stable hand came out to tack the two vayrons up; giving them supplies for their trip.
Once the two had all their supplies secured tightly on their backs, Jettari lead the way towards the mountains that would lead them to Roenden. Looking back over her shoulder, Gale watched as her small little village disappeared into the distance; a part of her beginning to ache already at possibly seeing her home for the last time. Following in Jettari’s paw prints however, Gale continued forward and headed into the unknown.
They walked for a long time, even as the snow began to fall and the wind began to threaten them with frostbite; Jettari very much used to, and well equipped for the snow thanks to his thick fur, but also making sure to pass a glance to Gale every now and then to make sure she was doing alright. Passing through the cliff side pass on the mountain was their first task, and although Gale looked nervously into the depths masked by a thick fog, she trusted Jettari knew the best path to go when heading to Roenden. From time to time she asked him questions about living in the mountains, and how many times he may have traveled this path; his answers typically being short and to the point, but still revealing a little bit more about the one she was traveling with.
When Jettari felt the wind pick up in an all too familiar way, he lead them to a cave where the male sat guard and Gale caught up on her rest, falling asleep long before the blizzard hit; unaware of the danger Jettari lead them out of. Upon rising the next morning, the two continued onward toward Roenden, making short time of this journey and surprisingly, shaving off a few days that most had to deal with otherwise. By time they reached the outskirts of Roenden, their supplies were nearly depleted, but Gale had learned a lot on her trip; mostly from Jattari’s experience and careful guidance. Very much appreciating his help, Gale stopped as soon as they reached the city, turning to him to offer a sincere smile, though the male was already untacking himself and getting ready to head back off into the woods- a social life was not the life he choose.
“I just wanted to uhm… thank you, for going with me on this trip… I don’t think I could have done it without your help…” she said, smiling gratefully at him. The male scoffed a bit, but otherwise didn’t seem as grumpy as he normally was, offering her a polite nod as he responded “Not a problem…” Flicking his tail, he turned and began wandering off towards the tree line, only pausing to glance over his shoulder again to give Gale a second look “Take care, Gale” he said, causing the female’s ears to perk and that smile of hers to grow a bit more.
“You as well” she said, trying to resist a doggish tail wag before she picked up his tack and brought it into town. Waiting for her were some other vayrons from her village, ready to greet her and help her untack- and of course, congratulate her on another successful trial completed. As she greeted her old companions, Gale felt a swelling of pride and accomplishment as she was one step closer to completing one of the most difficult challenges of her life; all that remained now was a test of loyalty.
