Description so i think an added bonus for me when uploading these pics since stock photos are not my thing, is explaining certain aspects of them and why they are special, will benefit you guys as well. i'm always here to help!

so, -atmospheric perspective-, something many of you tend to forget. the further away something is, the more faded it will be. in a daylight setting such as this, you use blue ( a greyish blue not indigo) to fade it out. this wasn't intended to demonstrate atmospheric perspective mind you, i took shot after shot of the waves crashing on these rocks to make custom brushes out of. feel free to try, i'm not sure it'll work for that. if you dont know to do that how note me.

and this is why the coasts up in northern california are WAY better than southern cali.

i'd pick rocks and little islands and puffy clouds over palm trees ANY day.

all of my stock images are free to use for all, for both commercial and non commercial work, show me what you do with it

Very strong feelings from this image. I sail all over the Caribbean and this kind of imagery is something I see in many places. Just north of St. Barts is an island called Ile Fourche. When you sail south from Sint Maarten the island is on your left. Barren and weathered. No one lives there. The salt air and crashing waves create the haze. Almost looks like using a fog filter. No filter is needed.
Thanks

Hahahaha Yeah the coast is better to LOOK at, but good God don't get in that cold ass water without a wet suit or something. I fell in while tide pooling up around Mendocino county, GAWD! It actually made my bones hurt. I never thought that possible unless you broke one or something, but my wrists, ankles and forearms really did hurt all the way to the bone. But you can't beat the weather up there. They whine about 80 degrees being hotter than hell.

haha yea they do.

i grew up around there, and when we went to the beach when i was a kid i remember barely wanting to wade in at my ankles because it was always so damned cold!

WhiteHowler7 In reply to ashigaru [2009-03-19 06:24:07 +0000 UTC]

you probably knew about that, but lots of people starting out dont take certain things into account. i hope to bring it to mind for them

i get alot of notes asking for tips and i always tell them to look at photo reference so maybe if i submit plenty of pics demonstrations of those techniques it will make it easier to help

i want to submit a news with this sort of thing, beginners tips and stuff but i think i'd be lame for doing so :/

Yes, I do... I happen to love foggy days for what they do to our sense of perspective; they make the world feel a bit smaller, a little spooky and claustrophobic, and a bit more of a mystery.

I'll bet you can number in the hundreds or thousands the notes you've had asking about even the simplest of things... don't you think there's at least a few people out there that don't know even the basics? And those are our foundations for creating art. Many of us never went to school for art (I took one class in college for Drawing and Composition and got a B , I was actually working on a degree in Aerospace Engineering, which also went by the wayside).

Your experience and ability as a professional colorist is a valuable resource for *all* of us, beginners and professionals alike. Because none of us do things the same way, there might be a great discussion about "this is what you're doing, but I've found an easier way!" which could be helpful to you as well!

Please. You couldn't be lame if you tried... any knowledge you're willing to share would be very well received.

Had to laugh this morning. It was *very* foggy here... and all I could think of was my comment about loving foggy days.

Sometimes, you just get what you ask for!

I'm looking forward to everything you're willing to share!
