This shot was underexposed by 3-4 stops and I had alot of work done on it to bring it back to life.
I think it still looks a bit fake or overdone??

no i don't think it looks fake, although the colortone may be a little bit too brownish(eg sky or gras) but that works perfect with the rest of the picture

I usually also adjust contrast, saturation, levels and some minor dodging and burning.
Some photos requier a little more adjustment due to the 5 stop tolorance digital cameras encounter interms of dynamic range. I also love the painted look, maybe its just a phase Iam going through.

My original shot very poor interms of exposure. I bumped saturation in certain colors,adjusted curves using the classic S curve, a yellow filter layer and some doging and burning in CS2.
