Description I've been rereading the Circle of Magic books and ugh I forgot how much I love Lark and Rosethorn. Rosie especially, but I really really really enjoy their relationship and how well Tamora Pierce portrayed it.

I've been sketching them a lot and I was rather pleased with this one so here it is.

Rosethorn hates hugs. Unless they're from Lark.

//my bad, disregard my last comment since I hadn't seen this image yet I had heard good things about Tamora Pierce but it's been so long since I attempted to read any fiction...

it's hard to find fantasy stuff that isn't full of het sex, TBH. Or at least it was for me and so I gave up reading anything b/c I'm too picky. If i wanted to read a romance novel I'd read a ROMANCE NOVEL. //minirant

lol!

yeah i would always recommend Tamora Pierce. she does such a good job with her female characters

it really is, though, it's so hard to find good fantasy

Hm that's probably why I switched to a lot of anime or manga. Easier to find at least a few that don't entirely center around romance crap, but you can still get the fantasy or sci-fi elements. Maybe I just had bad luck with trying to read fiction. I think the last fiction book I really enjoyed was House of Leaves (some dumb ex-friend borrowed it from me and never gave it back, FML) The only other recent fiction I remember reading was Atwood's Oryx and Crake, and I found it underwhelming at best. I used to read Charles de Lint, but I liked his short fiction better than his novels. I stopped right in the middle of one and never picked it back up after I realized I didn't give a frack if the characters lived or died. (That said, he wrote better female characters than the majority of male writers I read at the time)

I'll have to check the used bookstore for these next time I go...

lol i've gotten to the point where I tend to read mostly female authors because i don't trust the way men write women. and i just got back into reading fiction now that i graduated. i do suggest you check out Tamora Pierce though

I cannot tell you how happy this made me. I am a huge fan of (mostly) all the Pierce books, and was so surprised when I saw this in your gallery when I was only looking for LoK stuff. YAY LESBIANS IN YOUNG ADULT LIT. also, this is adorable. Rosethorn not being abrasive...

it makes me happy to see another fan! it's such a small fandom for the CoM books, and there's hardly any art for Lark and Rosethorn. i just love them so much and thank you so much!

Personally I like them more than the Tortall universe, but it seems that I am the only one with that preference. oh well. I have never actually looked for art/lit of the CoM stuff, but currently I am lurking through your fanfic on your tumblr (not a stalker by the way). but anywho! keep at it! all the cute fluff just makes me smile

i share that preference. i like the Tortall universe, but the CoM books and characters capture me more, somehow. it might be because there's not a character in the world i love more than Rosethorn, idk.

awesome!i love when people read my stuff!

Agreed, well and the general idea of ambient magic. I don't know, toph and lin are pretty great....

Also, do you plan on continuing your TyZula fanfic?

Rosethorn and Lin are tied. I can't chose between them.

I want to. I haven't had any inspiration for it though in a while. i don't want to be one of those authors who leave things unfinished

I-is-I-be In reply to whutnot [2012-08-30 14:26:02 +0000 UTC]

you do have a metric fuck ton of fan art of lin ( not that i am complaining)

ah, well, dont want to be one of those authors that just runs a good idea into the ground. But I do hope you find some inspiration, because incomplete fanfics are becoming the bane of my existence.

lol yeah i really enjoy drawing her!

oh i know. i hate that a lot of the really great fanfics are like never updated and i hate that i've done that to my readers

I-is-I-be In reply to whutnot [2012-08-31 23:04:40 +0000 UTC]

actually you have really inspired me to start drawing again. I really just want to make fun cartoony things of lin and other LoK characters. WHY ARE FACES SO HARD??? but she seems like a really fun and distinctive character to draw.

for shame, for shame.

that's awesome!!! i love to hear that!!!!

Lin took me a while to get down right, but she's so much fun!

yeah, I am always amazed by how you draw expressions and character interactions. Your anatomy isnt perfect ( I use to be very focused on body/figure drawing), but the positioning is very natural and I really just want to be able to draw that as well.

they are so hard! do you have any tips besides practice?

whutnot In reply to I-is-I-be [2012-09-02 04:38:11 +0000 UTC]

study. look at faces, and study them and look at other artists and animation especially. and yes, practice practice practice.

oh there are..... ten books total, I think. Two sets of four, and then two stand alones.

the books in the sets of four are only about 200 pages each. easy reads.

Hmm. That does sound like a serious book series. How's the writing, in your opinion?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

whutnot In reply to Greatkingrat88 [2012-08-25 06:21:22 +0000 UTC]

it's aimed at a younger audience, so the writing is simple, and it's an easy read, but it is good writing. i am fond of how the author handles the characters, especially the female ones.
