Freaky awesome! How did you make that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wibbledile In reply to nervaeda [2008-12-01 15:51:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The face was carved out of wax and then cast with lost-wax prosess in 18ct yellow gold. Then the helmet was put on and the wings were carved from ivory. The client gave the ivory.

OMG i LOVE it!!!!!!! How did you make the face, did you mold something and turn it into the material???

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wibbledile In reply to Klarenden [2008-11-30 20:19:02 +0000 UTC]

Thaks a lot! This one was carved out of wax and then cast by the lost-wax method, I didnt make a mold afterwards because it has to be once-off for my clients.

Klarenden In reply to wibbledile [2008-11-30 20:30:29 +0000 UTC]

wow you carved the viking? Thats a wonderful job!! your like THE carving master lol. How is the jewelry biz in Africa?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wibbledile In reply to Klarenden [2008-11-30 20:34:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, the jewellery industry is a bit slower now, economic woes! Even though all our materials are from South Africa, we still pay for it in dollars! But it always recovers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Klarenden In reply to wibbledile [2008-11-30 21:01:26 +0000 UTC]

So, you use US dollars in S. Africa? I'm surprised lol. I guess thats cause the market in which it flows through is US dollars orientated? I guess its US dollars or Euro, they both seem to be top richest money. From what I understand, Euro beats US dollars and Canadian as well, maybe we all should just convert to something stable? lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wibbledile In reply to Klarenden [2008-11-30 21:13:02 +0000 UTC]

We use Rands, but our materials are priced in dollars, so it gets converted to Rands. So if a stone costs me 10 dollars today I pay R100 but if the Rand gets weaker against the dollar tomoro, then I end up paying more. It sucks. I think stability would be nice. LOL

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Klarenden In reply to wibbledile [2008-11-30 23:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, thats got to suck! Better make sure its an expensive item so it pays off either way lol
