Description An animatic for the Visual Storytelling module at Sheffield Hallam University, where the goal was to promote awareness of Depression as a disability.

We presented it in front of several significant people from Student Support and received some great feedback. Any feedback from you guys would be much appreciated.

A collaborative project between myself & Callie Booth callielynne.deviantart.com/

this is a good way of telling what depression is like. it's not fun, but IΒ do like the black blob

I love the message and the animation is pretty great too. Though I thought the black blob came across more as a puppy you can't be mad at than a weight on your life.

Wonderful animation.

I love how you sent a great message about depression.Β  At first I was confuse like why this shadow is following him and while keep on looking at it I'm starting getting the message just love it.

I think message like this should spread like crazy, keep up the wonderful work.

Being honest, I don't think this is a good way to portray depression. This made me smile and chuckle more than feel bad for these people.

Hey thanks for the feedback

I'm interested that it made you smile and chuckle. And i'm glad it didn't make you feel bad for the characters because that wasn't the aim of the animation! We were just trying to make a usually dark, taboo and misunderstood subject a little lighter.

Cheers

Good job so far!

One thing I will say though is that I didn't know you were trying to portray depression until the end, when it was stated. Β Even then, the black creature seemed more like a mischievous ghost more than anything. Β Maybe change its eyes to look a bit more sad and its movements to seem a bit more needy, or anything that will make it emote depression more than what is currently being presented.

Still, it's looking pretty nice, so keep it up!

Thank you! Although we have actually finished with this project, we may return to it later but we shall have to see.

You know i'm glad you didn't know that it was depression until you were told. That was kinda the point. Unless someone tells you that they have depression, then generally you have no idea.

I didn't get it at first, I just thought it was some annoying thing being stupid, & then I saw the end and I was like... that is so what depression is like!! I haven't been diagnosed with depression, but I do have it. (Its just hard when people don't take you seriously when you tell them you do.) It just hits me out of nowhere like a sak of bricks! There is no rhyme nor reason to it ether! Your happy & content one second & then BOOM! Your sad & upset the next for no reason! This video depicted that perfectly. Β  & you guys are right, people need to be aware that depression IS a disability. and needs to be treated as such.

Thank you for the positive words about this animation. When we made it we were a little nervous that it wouldn't capture the true feeling of depression, but your feedback along with others have been fantastic.

We really want to get the word out there, so if you have any ideas for sharing it, or submitting it somewhere, then let me know!

I really like how this puts that thought across. It's really not something you just push away and you're over it and it leaves you alone forever. Nice work, too, giving it that sort of comedic quality, like a little kid bothering his mum until she gives him cookies....

hey. hey. heeeeey. heyyyy. hey. Hey, look. loooook. But really, it's.. just look, okay?
