"No brother, stop!" The older god commanded gently, yet the words felt like a slap in the face. The latter of the two men glared as he tried a second time to escape the embrace. What possessed his 'brother' to think that he would see the gesture as comforting? He'd just stood by and watched (with a sulking demeanor) as Loki's only source of strength had been sealed. The muzzle had been insulting enough, courtesy of the Man of Iron, and Loki had imagined that he'd be forced to endure far worse punishment once returned to Asgard; however that didn't stop the bleeding from both his mouth and pride. These thoughts enraged him, giving him a burst of strength to wrench free of the restraining arms. Again, he brought his hands to his face, intertwined his fingers with the magic leather and yanked. It hurt like Hel, but what didn't? Blood began to pour anew, coating his fingers, making it harder to pull. But he didn't stop; pain was all he had left to feel, other than the bitter loneliness and betrayal that had long ago consumed his soul.
Before he could further escape Thor's presence, thought, he was enveloped in it again. He thrashed and struggled, but with all his strength, and will to fight gone, he tired in the older man's arms. He felt Thor force him to his knees. 'how fitting', he thought, 'I'll die in the very position I sought from others.'
But then, his brother surprised him, as he felt himself falling back onto his rump. For some reason unknown to him, his panic returned, and with it, an animal instinct to fight, despite having no strength. He fought against his brother's arms and a stiffed scream poked through his sewn lips. Loki couldn't take it anymore! He had to be heard. His voice was suffocating, but he spoke anyway, a cross between a growl and a moan coming from him. "You idiot! Release me!" he shouted. Thor only tightened his grip on Loki's wrists. Then a thought occurred to the god. Thor couldn't understand him. He could finally speak his mind without fear of being cut off or uninterrupted or like wise ignored. He spoke again, as he fought his brother's hands,
"You obnoxious, over sized, ox shouldered, empty minded..." he continued to say worse things, an occasional swear making his insults more colorful. He continued, his exhaustion draining away his fight, "blind-as-a-bat brute! Never, in all my miserable existence, have i hated something as much as I do you! And yet you refuse to accept this! You continue to call me brother when i could be no clearer that we are enemies!" He felt tears rising, but he denied them the outlet they sought and finished his screaming before he lost the chance, and nerve to, "Odin took me, and hid me in your shadow, where i have been abandoned to the wolves of my jealousy! There! i've admit it! I was...still am jealous of you! Is it any wonder I became the god of lies when my life was shrouded in them! I-I hate myself, possibly more than everyone else does! You are the only one who still wants me around!" Loki looked down at his cut, bloodied fingers. the tears threatened to fall. He shut his eyes against them as he waited for his brother to let go of him, as he always did, and leave him to suffer fate alone.
But again, Thor surprised him. He let go of one wrist, cupped Loki's chin from behind and leaned in to whisper in his left ear. "I know...I was blind. Blind for so long. But now I see, and I can see you still love me." That stopped Loki's struggles. Out of all the things he'd expected to happened next, that had not been among his possible senerios. Had...had Thor heard him? No, impossible. No one could hear him now. His surprise and expression soured at the thought. he was alone to his own dark thoughts and demons, at their mercy. Thor whispered, quieter this time, "And I can see you are far stronger than I could ever be. You bore the weight of so much bitterness and hatred for centuries. You. Not I. if nothing else, I was the cause of your misery and for that I'm am sorry beyond what words can express." Loki quieted and eventually stilled in his older brother's grasp, allowing those words to sink in. Did he mean that? "Please," Thor begged, tears edging his tone, "Please forgive me. I love you."
Thor was asking Loki for forgiveness? After all the villainy and crime the God of Mischief had done? Tears overflowed the dam behind his eyes and spilled out onto his face, streaking dirty cheeks and mingling with blood that dripped from his chin. He closed his eyes and for the first time in a long time, he spoke the truth, "I love you too."
