Description This is a female Blanford fly. Found near rivers and lakes in France. Blanford flies look like harmless little flies, but they can inflict a huge hurt on their victims. When female Blanford flies land on a skin, they slash away with their sharp mouthparts until blood flows, leaving the victim a great pain. After a satisfying meal of blood, a female Blanford fly lays up to 500 eggs near a swift-moving river.
