Description
Here in the swamps of Florida, we see an American alligator that is digging a water-filled hole with its snout and feet. Alligators are integral to their environment because they create 'alligator holes'- small ponds that retain water through the dry season and provide habitats for multiple species. When alligators leave their holes when the rains come back, other creatures move in either to shelter or breed.
