Description The tropical Pacific variation of Merfolk is the Pacific Bahari. Unlike it's close cousin, the Atlantic Bahari, Pacifics are brightly colored and smaller in size. Baharis live in tight family clans called "tribes". Baharis as a whole are a peaceful group of individuals who prefer to be left alone by humans than to engage in conflict. Male Pacific Baharis are more brightly colored to attract females. The brighter a male's colors, the higher ranked he is in the tribe. Both types of Baharis are nomadic and follow the migratory routes of whales. Both have domesticated dolphins and use them for hunting fish and watching for predators. Unlike any other type of merfolk, both Atlantic and Pacific Baharis act like seahorses during the development of their guppies. The female transfers the young into the male's pouch so that they can develop into baby Baharis. Since Baharis can have up to ten guppies at a time, it is fitting for the larger male to carry them in his pouch and protect them from large predators rather than the smaller female. Pacific Baharis have been sighted along the coasts of California and Chile, Central America, Japan, Australia, the Philippine Islands, and in parts of Malaysia although some have been seen along the east coast of Africa and in India on occasion.
