Ellie is the younger sister of Wally West, best known as Kid Flash, and one of the youngest members of the Green Lantern Corps.

Ellena received her ring due to a kidnapping incident that involved one of her rich classmates who she was good friends with. Due to her sheer strong willed determination to save her friend, she received her ring when she was about to fight one of the kidnappers who was a Metahuman with enhanced strength. Having rescued her friend and returning said friend to the police the two kept Ellena's new found power a secret and began training and doing minor hero work.

It wouldn't be until nearly half a year later that Ellena's Uncle discovers who his niece is that she gets taken under the wings of the other Green Lanterns and begins her journey between Earth and space as a universal hero.
