After the instalation of the JMM-E device, it takes a while to kick in. I left the time it takes him to change vague on purpose, anywhere from a few days to a few months, but after only a few hours he starts to have memory problems and he is carrying a knife with him days before he actually feels inclined to use it. He also develops a habit of reaching up to touch the visible parts of the device (like how a person might play with a necklace they are wearing when nervous) Those close to him, particularly the CBF and Gavin, notice that he is acting strange, but don't react quickly enough.
Gregory, normally an inventor, only volunteered to test the thing because no one else was willing (testors at ENTITY get to choose which inventions they test) and it is directly after they deactivate the JMM-E that ENTITY finally realizes they need to hire now testors. Madi and Maxwell are found and hired within the week
