I was looking into the early generations of MLP (in toy form) and found these cute little Jewel Ponies. I gathered most (if not all) of them and decided to create an MLP AU.

In this AU, Jewel ponies are considered 'magical' ponies though ALL ponies initially appear as Earth ponies. No other kind exists. Why? Because I noticed that the Earth pony toys were the most designed and initially there were no Pegasus or Unicorn produced. Not to mention earlier MLP generations really focused on Earth style ponies.

In this AU, everyone lives in Ponytopia, a happy and bright place. But there are threats that exist outside the borders and for that, protection is needed.

In comes the Jewel ponies, who can either magically conjure a crystal horn or crystal wings. Sort of a transformation, magical girl-like story.

NOTES

About the ponies in general:
ALL are Earth ponies.
The gems were crafted centuries ago by legendary princesses, who used what you COULD call a Tree of Harmony (but called a Crystal Tree in this AU) to create these eight gems.
The horn and wings are only as long as one needs them. Once the threat is gone, they disappear from existence.
NO ONE has figured out how to combine the two, you can only pick ONE additional appendage.
Each bears a heart added with specialized tattooing. EVERY pony naturally has a heart symbol in the color of their eyes, but the additional parts show up after becoming a Jewel pony. ONLY appears on right front limb.
Cutie marks ONLY appear for those who have jewels; both appear ONLY on the right flank and the cutie mark MEAN nothing. It's often colored in their gem colors.
Features are different in comparison to the MLP: FIM - hair is always colored as such, body will bear natural (common to rare) horse patterns/looks, eyes/eyebrows are square rather than circular, eyes have four-pointed stars as light reflecting, and finally, they ALL bear additional (ACTUAL) horseshoes that make them taller.

ABOUT CRYSTAL LACE
The Twilight-like character. Each character had a back card with information - hers referred to loving to read and learn about lore, legends, and stories from long ago.
Her choice of magic is the unicorn horn. She tried wings ONCE and she crashed and nearly broke her neck.
She was chosen to be a Jewel pony because of her determination and focus.
Her fur is based on a rare look for a horse, bearing peacock spots.
