A whistle pierced the air as Soa leaped out of the vehicle. Johanan gave Soa her commands as she was told to find the rabbit. She wuffed with quiet excitement as she felt the man attach a tracker to her collar. The bright orange collar helped locate the dog in the red brown grass. Soa leaped into action as she heard the command to go. The tracker on her collar had voice contact between the dog and handler so that Soa felt less nervous when Johanan was no longer in sight. She sniffed excitedly as she picked up a rabbit trail. She heard the soft thump of a hind leg hitting the ground and pricked her ears forward. With a quiet determination, Soa raced after the rabbit as it zigged and zagged through the field to reach a burrow. Suddenly another rabbit sprung up, crossing paths with the other. Soa picked the new rabbit to chase as she heard it thump and race across the terrain. Her tongue lolling as she ran, Soa sniffed, inhaling the scent of this particular rabbit. The rabbit leaped a pile of sticks with the dog close behind. The rabbit tried to hide under the sticks but Soa chomped on the small sticks and the rabbit exploded right under her nose as she snapped her teeth, only grazing the rabbit and getting some of his fur beneath gums and in between her teeth. Barking in frustration, Soa was even more determined to catch the elusive rabbit as she locked onto the rabbit with eyes and nose and ears. The mist hung heavy as the morning progressed. Dampening any smell that made its way to Soa's nose. She could see the rabbit and circled tight with a burst of speed to catch the elusive rabbit before he went underground. More rabbits sprung out from all over the field, but she had locked onto this one as she rolled the fur over her tongue and out from her teeth. With a huge lunge and a leap Soa landed right on the rabbit as she pinned it down and used her paws to hold it on the neck while she barked her success to the world. Johanan soon found the dog as he did what he had to do for the rabbit to be preserved. "Good girl Soa, we will make a hunting dog of you yet. Very good girl", Johanan said as he gave Soa a treat and played with her to reward her for catching the rabbit. The dog wagged her tail and leaped up after the ball that was thrown for her. All too soon for Soa the hunt had been over as she and her prize were brought back to the starting place where many others had gathered to share their spoils. Soa was praised over and over for her catch. She was happy as she wagged her tail and rolled around in the dirt with the other dogs. Yes, she was a good dog.
