I just take the tabby lineart, make lines around random patches, and colour everything outside the patches the main colour of the cat - for example, in this, I made everything outside the patches white.

So, draw line on the lineart? I tried that, but it doesn't work. Can you help me?

What's to help? =\ It's pretty straightforward. You just section off patches of tabby markings and colour the rest a solid colour.
