It did survive that but it was quite a way from the epicentre. . . I imagine there were shrines close to the centre of the blast, some of which survived at least in part. Not everything was destroyed. I'll have Hiroshima photos up in a week or so and they'll show the remains of the Dome that has been left as a memorial.

Close to three metres I'd say. This is in a pretty narrow channel between the island and the mainland. I think tidal variation is pretty great in channels like that.
