Description
The Second Imperium is hardly idle in its research and development of genetically and cybernetically enhanced soldiers. It is well known that there are Ground tanks and Tech tanks both of which serve a very specific purpose from armed combat to data processing.

Originally normal humans took on the aviator roles within the Second Imperium as Ground tanks are large and cumbersome when operating aerial vehicles and Tech tanks are too small and weak to withstand the various forces generated in high velocity manuvering.

This led to the development of the Avian tank, a very recent addition to their armed forces. Avians have been designed to withstand higher g-forces than even the powerful Ground tanks. Their hearts are more powerful and their enhanced musculature is strong enough to endure extreme forces for extended periods making them ideal fighter pilots. Whilst most ships and vehicles carry inertial compensators to drastically reduce the stresses placed on those inside or prevent them from being mashed into putty against the bulkheads under acceleration there is a chance they could fail or even lag under high speed manoeuvres. Avians can withstand this for longer and with their stronger heartbeat in unison with advanced G-suits utilise a craft to its maximum.

Another difference is in their eyes. The cornea has been coated with a reflective substance that adapts to changing light conditions giving theirs eyes a silver pupil-less appearance. The concept being that should an Avian be required to make an emergency lift off or be required to fly without adequate equipment they can operate to within 75% of what they would in full gear
