IT IS DONE.
I am so glad the Stryx Chrismas Wish art had a soft deadline. It gave me the ability to work on this piece when I was really feeling it.
And BOY do I like how it came out. The collar is just a bit off, but I still think this is one of my best realistic stryx pieces to date.
This work features ashenantlers 's lovely babe Callisto!
She was a real pleasure to work with.
I didn't quite have the right colors for her, but they are so close you can barely tell.
If anything, they are a little more orange than brown in hue and a little stronger in tone.
I used Prismacolor colored pencils for the shading/highlighting and Copics for the main colors.
This time I did the shading first, and while the results are nice, I think I'll stick to shading after coloring on later pieces where Copics are involved.
While the Copic's ink melts the pencil wax, the wax gives just enough resist that in some places on the tail feathers the shading looks more like highlights. |D
It can also make the ink look streaky and blend poorly, but in this case that was not an issue.
I can't remember how many hours it took since I forgot to time it.
My camera and computer are not cooperating, so the image looks a little dark. ;m;
